At the Labour Party Conference today man of 82 was set upon by five stewards and ejected for having the temerity to heckle Jack Straw.

The stewards it seems were dressed in yellow reflective jackets rather than the brown shirts of latter day enforcers, but it gives a clear signal that critisism of our glorious leader's liberal and egalitarian policies can be dangerous. :nono:

First the pensioners jailed for not paying their council tax

Then a man jumped upon for heckling Ein Fuhrer at ze Konpherence

Watch it Greybeard; if I were you, I'd stick to the Sheffield History threads and gardening :suspect:

This was SO over the top!

I do wonder how much of it was an over-reaction from the Stewards rather than any sort of policy.

Even this crowd can't believe that they'd get good media coverage from manhandling an 82 year old veteran of the peace movement in to a cold and damp Brighton street.

Where's the gardening section...are there secret clubs on this forum ?:suspect:

There's a very believable rumour that Sylvia Hardy's outstanding tax bill was paid by some civil servant on the instruction of a senior govt. minister.

She only owed £53.71p but her 24 hours in jail cost the taxpayer £91.00

But if they had let her off it would have been a legal precedent and then everyone of us would be able to refuse to pay tax. I think the judges made the right decision, and I don't see how they could have done anything else without encouraging anarchy.

Errrr... are you saying this old lady was a threat to society?

Lucky for her we don't yet have armed officers walking the streets :suspect:

Hey now, lets look at this in its context everybody, hey these brave stewards, good fellows and all, selflessly, I mean without fear or regard for their own safety dealt with this hideously dangerous troublemaker in an exemplary fashion.

How can you see it as over the top, we used minimum force, one steward for each arm and leg and one for his colostomy bag. So now look come on, this guy I am reliably informed (looks sincerely and puppy like towards the camera) by my Leibstandarten err err I mean stewards, was carrying WMD's(Words Most Dissentful) and heh that could have cost thousands even....... hundreds of thousands of votes. Sorry but this old troublemaker escaped from the tyranny of one maniac dictator.........he ain't getting away from this one!

The magistrates had to enforce the the law, but the mysterious Mr. Brown chose to circumvent the spirit of it.

I know of a Mr. Brown who is quite probably a little shame-faced about the burden of council tax on pensioners and very concious of the inflationary pressure of the year-on-year increases in council tax. But then he has his budget to balance

but heh (puppy look comes out again) that one word cost a lot of votes, if he'd been allowed to carry on it could have been Brighton's version of 9/11, literally thousands of votes could have been lost.
(looks you unconvincingly in the eye) This man I honestly believe was a suicide heckler who had no regard for the voting intentions of millions of UK voters and was about to detonate into a spontaneous rant that electorally could have caused carnage to the electorate.
Fortunately for him he wasn't doing it on London Underground!:hihi:

No but she wanted to go to jail. She said so.

But the Sussex police have admitted that when he attempted to re-enter the conference he was detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act !!!

Our democratic ideals can be very quickly abandoned when the need arises.

You are all being most unfair. As one pensioner said (in the Queen's Speech):

"My government will endeavour to get the crime rate down by decriminalising parking - and then watch some old terrorist heckle at Brighton..."

Isn't politics wonderful? Coming the day that scientists predict the end of the Arctic Ice sheet, it's good to know that the politicos have their priorities in order.
