View Full Version : Problems with O2 network
Does anyone else have an O2 network mobile? If so, is anyone else having problems with sending and recieving calls and messages?
I think the network is down because i've just called customer services. I just need to confirm that it isn't my mobile that is knackered because i'm expecting some important calls!
I'm on 02,it's fine at the moment but it did go down last week,no signal for 8 hrs.......does it depend on where you are?ie your proximity to the mast thingy.
A.B.Yaffle 28-09-2005, 18:55 Mine's down too. Although it says I have reception, I can't make calls or send messages.
dieselbabe 28-09-2005, 18:56 Im on 02 and yes i had problems sending texs but not recieving them,I dont know about calls has not tryed it yet.
EDIT - i just ask mate to ring me and he says he can not ring out and i tryed to ring and just cuts me off.so yes both tex and calls are down

it's 7.57pm, I just used my O2 mobile to call my landline and my landline rung. sorry.
I've tried phoning mine from my landline and you can hear a constant tone so my mobile isn't even accepting calls. The network must be down because I have full reception and i'm fully topped up!
It might just be pay as you go O2 mobiles that are affected?
dieselbabe 28-09-2005, 19:03 Well for somereason i can get calls from a landline and also call's and tex's from other mobile networks  .But try to ring out on 02 to 02 and so has mate and still cuts us off.
ToryCynic 28-09-2005, 19:22 I too, am on the o2 network - live in a dip, but unusually, I have to go upstairs to do anything...
Usually, I do not have any problems do tasks on my mobile downstairs... it's an S700i - and the signal level is 'blue'...
:)
ToryCynic 28-09-2005, 19:35 I have just telephone o2 on 4445, and have been told their network's a bit beggered...
:)
No issues that I know of (have been out of office all day)
Did you call customer services?
Provide them the full address if you can of where there was a problem, (if not as much if fo as you can)
Also other people you know with the same problem.
Tried rebooting your phone? (battery out while phone is powered on)
I know of a "niggle" in the Ranmoor area with 3G but it has overlap cells so should not be a problem.
PM me if still no luck.

Cheers Paul - I'll try those suggestions.
:)
EDIT at 2112h - I took the battery out of the S700, and it worked...
Will I need to do this regularly, or just whilst the network is 'playing up'?
Cheers.

Should not need to do it at all but its just one of those things.
Mobile networks have a bit of kit called a HLR (Home Location Register) this is linked to your SIM, Phone number the HLR is a massive database of what services you can and can not access , what cell site you attached to, where you might handover to (if traveling) where you are and lots of other tricks and useful stuff.
When it was not working the HLR would of been, mobile unable to make call / sms due to xxx reason.
When "normal service is resumed" the HLR should re-check its self to see what users are connected to the network and need updating, aka you needed the update "network fine".
The latter part did not happen for what ever reason.
By you taking the battery out while the h/set is powered on and in coverage it network has "lost" you.
The HLR is now going WTF where has 8944110063xxx sim number gone?!?!
You turn your phone back on, it finds coverage then checks the HLR, HLR goes there you are, and then checks what services you have access to, (in this case calls and sms).
Any questions let me know.
:)
(btw might not of been the HLR at fault {rare} but something connected to such) Will enquire when back in the office.)

yes its all good now. wot wud i do without my mobile lol
Problems with vodafone today...no signal of any kind anywhere.
im on o2 pay n go and my friend across the road is on business contract and both of us have had problems on and off for a while now.a couple of nights ago i was trying to send txt, some would send and some wouldn't,same with calls,it was hit and miss.one problem ive had on and off for a while is that when i send a txt it says error not sent so try again then my recipient says they received the txt half a dozen times!
nuf_said 30-09-2005, 20:53 Last week my O2 showed 'Emergency Calls Only' even though the signal strength was full or almost full. Couldn't make a call - didn't try emergency number obviously. This lasted for 2 hours - what's going on?
evildrneil 02-10-2005, 12:30 I'm having O2 problems - text message and calls are eratic and I tried to top up yesterday in Sainsburys and it took about 3 hours to hit my phone (though I did get an apologetic text message about it today!) However I also have a tesco mobile which (as far as I'm aware) uses the O2 network and have had no problems with that???
It was scary really how I realised how much I relied on my mobile! You don't know what you've got til its gone!
ToryCynic 02-10-2005, 13:07 I know I rely on it heavily - especially as, when we move, we won't have a landline.
