Anyone see the eisode where that pregnant lass was advised to eat liver to help with the pregnancy.

The department of health has said that pregnant lasses should not eat large amounts of liver as this can be harmful, and the producers made a mistake when they wrote this into the script.

ITV have issued an apology.

ITV have issued an apology.

Unfortunately a serious error was made in last night’s episode of Emmerdale where pregnant Alice was advised to eat liver for iron deficiency.

About fifty years ago, doctors encouraged women to eat liver as it contained a high content of iron. However, in recent years through extensive research, doctors have been advised that liver can contain very high concentrations of vitamin A which, if taken in excess, can cause harm to a growing baby.

As a result, the Department of Health advises the following:

"Although liver and liver products, such as paté and liver sausage, are good sources of iron, they can also contain very high concentrations of vitamin A. If taken in excess, this vitamin can build up in the liver and cause harm to a growing baby.

As a result, the Department of Health advises all pregnant women to avoid liver and liver products. Some vitamin supplements are also high in this vitamin, so pregnant women should always choose a specially prepared pregnancy supplement"

For further information on the above statement please click on the link below and refer to p12 of the ‘Your Health in Pregnancy’ document:

On behalf of Emmerdale, we would like to apologise for the above error and would suggest that any pregnant woman suspected of anaemia should consult her GP or contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647.

It's good job they didn't say "drink bleach" or "paint your arse blue", imagine the problems that would have caused.

Do people realy look to soap operas for advice on these things ?
