View Full Version : Geeks Rule the (Entertainment) World robbie 27-09-2005, 13:58 Time article here (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1109317,00.html) xafier 27-09-2005, 18:47 its society for you... its like girls that dress "gothy" to be cool, then you find out they listen to weird dance music and r 'n' b and you was expecting a bit of Slayer or Megadeth or something even remotely rock :? as for the mainstream sci-fi and fantasy fans, most of them only stick with the mainstream stuff, star trek is still uncool, star wars isnt... LOTR is cool, personally as a sci-fi and fantasy lover i still don't think LOTR is all that amazing, i've read and seen better... and harry spotter? pfft... you want hardcore geeks go to Games Workshop lol, or the Sheffield Space Center on the Wicker :) not that I've frequented either of those places... I'm far too cool for that  MTheo 27-09-2005, 19:18 i frequented them places xafier ;) im my younger days of comic collecting. i have since realised how bad the places are. (although i still think some comics are well written) the geeky checklist....lotr, star trek, fantasy, role playing, knowing lots of statistics, harry potter, correcting people, always knowing someone who did something better than you did, wearing a rock t-shirt when you've never even heard of the band. luckly i dont fall into many of them....maybe i know some useless statistics...but thats about it :) xafier 27-09-2005, 21:08 i probably fall into lots of them, and i really dont care, theres nothing wrong with being geeky, theres nothing wrong with science fiction and fantasy, theres nothing wrong with comics and cartoons and anime... its a hell of a lot better than smoking and drinking cheap cider on the street corner when your 13/14! i openly admit i still love cartoons and anime, who doesnt? im sure most of us love simpsons :P being a geek rocks  btw, I no longer go to Games Workshop, got out of that back in my mid teens... but I will admit there's a lot of skill to painting them and nothing geeky about it, painting minatures to a good level is hard work... i just got bored of the actual playing... and I still visit Sheffield Space Center every so often, they have anime's that are hard to find in HMV and virgin etc... and also a massive selection of books... you cant beat it :D |
