View Full Version : Lowedges questionnaires
rachyrach 27-09-2005, 13:48 i'm doing a degree in geography at hull uni but am originally from sheffield & am doing my dissertation on the lowedges estate. basically im looking at whether the bad reputation the area has is acurrate and how the design of the homes in the area have made things better/worse. to do this tho i need to complete a minimum of 200 questionnaires of people living in the area. i was wondering if anyone knew anywhere i could leave large numbers of the questionnaires to be completed, or would be willing to fill any in for me? any help would be gratefully appresiated as i'm running out of time to get this done!!! :help:
My flatmate lived in Lowedges Crescent up until about 6 months ago - I can maybe get him to fill one in for you.
(only another 199 to get through eh?)
Cheers
Saifa
michael_v2 27-09-2005, 17:07 why don't you contact the housing office on gervase road. i'm sure they'll lt you put some in there. or maybe the library in greenhill. hope this helps. where on lowedges are you from?
codeman_cas 27-09-2005, 17:09 hi if you go to ledges to put some questionares there then dont stand still too long as you will have your shoes nicked and you will end up on bricks, but seriously i used to live on there for 10 years when i was a kid and bloody loved it ,everyone was friendly and we were never intimidated by anyone, now its not good at all my nan still lives on there and is scared to death to go out .
good luck on your course

michael_v2 28-09-2005, 10:55 magicbert - what do you think of lowedges. i don't think it's as bad as it's reputation suggests. i hope not, as i'm moving my mum back to the area area next month

I'm just near the bus terminous.
I don't like going up near there at night, far too many groups of youths and my mum's been subject to verbal abuse before when going to the chippy etc. Can be very intimidating...
But on the whole, it's not as bad as people make out. Still plenty of lovely people around here, and the amenities and services are all ideally placed.
I've not encountered any of the drugs or violence where I am, and it's a shame some people have to tarnish reputations and spoil it.
But I still like it here :)
michael_v2 28-09-2005, 11:08 i used to live on gervase ave 20 years ago, and the estate was ok then. however since then, it's gone downhill a little. but i feel as a whole, during the day at least, its still ok. i think the other end of lowedges is a little worse. what do you think of beckett road. thats where she's moving to.

Oh, that's just across the road from me :D
In a great place for shops, buses, etc.
And yes, the other end does seem worse, you're right there - and again, in the day it's lovely to walk around here :)
hiya Michael v2
what number did you live at on Gervase avenue, we lived at number 310 for 13 years until 1979, it was a nice place then.

Hiya Michael v2,
have you got a sister Joanne and your mum is Flo and your
dad was Jack ?
michael_v2 28-09-2005, 22:23 i remember the tower block that we used to throw eggs at, the ghost in the school clock tower, and when they dug up the park to do what i remember was sewer works, and we used to slide down the big mud hill, and get, well, very dirty.and the youth club by the parks entrance. and at school, at the end of the year, we'd go to the assembly hall, and watch superman on the telly. and singing "lord of the dance" during assembly. god, it's all coming back to me now. has it been that long. if i remember right, i'm sure we watched the raising of the MARY Rose on a small telly in a lower classroom next to mr swanns office. anyone who went to lowedges junior school, do you remember the three lights he had on his door, to say wether he was busy, to come in or something else.
