Hi, I am quite new to knitting (Only been going about 4 or 5 months). I started with a children's knitting kit (despite being 30!) and decided it was something I would really enjoy doing.
I'm now working my way through Aneeta Patel's "Knitty Gritty - Knitting For Th Absolute Beginner" and am completely addicted.
I find the workshop followed by project way of learning really suits me, but as I am nearing the end of the book I'm looking for my next challenge.
Is anybody familiar with the book? Can you recommend another book I could get to learn new techniques and build on the one's I've learnt?

Thanks

Why not pop down to The Wool Baa, Hunters Bar, Sheffield. Jill there, will have loads of ideas for you. I'm sure you'll love it there.

I'm not familiar with the book, but it really sounds like it's fed your enthusiasm. I think it may be a good idea to have a think about who you'd like to knit for next and what they would like. Don't just stick to books for techniques either. You Tube has some fantastic tutorials with the added bonus of being able to actually see the movements being made with the yarn and needles and you can always pause and rewind them until you get the hang of whatever you are learning. There are quite a few knitting groups in Sheffield, with plenty of experienced knitters to speak to and we are generally a patient bunch. Jill at The Wool Baa has plenty of experience, enthusiasm and inspiration and Sheffield happens to have quite a few shops where knitting related paraphernalia can be purchased. Whatever you choose to do I hope you continue enjoy what you are doing.

Squares for a blanket, this is the best way to get to learn new stitches, you could try moss stitch, waffle stitch, basket weave or even be really adventurous and use two colours with your square :)

Socks is also good one although I'm still working on that! :)
