I have just come across this blog (http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/yarn-bombs-26-clever-and-cool) showing some really great examples of yarn bombing. Some of them look very intricate and that they may have needed rather a lot of assembly time at the statue.

theyre fab! i love the bus the most but lenin got the biggest splutter :)
it has been done before in sheffield though...maybe it needs a revival

A Muslim group is being blamed but I think it was the real IRA.

If this was done in paint or some other medium it would be considered vandalism.
That said the statues on a shopping mall in Harrogate all had hats and scarves on last year.
I love the idea of knitting mittens for Lenin :)
Not sure how you're meant to open the doors on the phone box or the escape hatch on the tank though (don't you think that the pompom hanging off the barrel of the tank finishes off the look?).
