I have just come home from a 2 week holiday to a wasp problem (as you do!)

We have quite a big flowery bush on the front that seem to have attracted lots and lots of bees and wasps, I'm not sure whether theres a nest (I can't see one).

I suppose my first question is...Is this normal? Is anyone else having this problem, particularly as its this time of the year.

Also, who do I contact to come and have a look and try to sort it? I believe the council do it, but it can cost you, if so, does anyone know how much?

Sorry I've wittered on, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Last year my mum had the council out to sort her wasp nest and they charged her £30.

If you don't sort the nest out, there'll be six next year.

Then six more... then six more!!!!
6,6,6, the number of the beasts.

They're coming! :o Head for the hills!!!!

err....

Ahem.

Sorry about that. I have a slight phobia.

Its not just me then..............opened my kitchen door in the early hours, last week, to find a small swarm of them.....approx 20-30, now I have to keep my kitchen window closed.........I think they get dozy this time of year...........bit like me really ! :hihi:

I had the pleasure of wiping a nest out last month, thick jeans and a few tops balaclave and glasses, looked like a terrorist. was just under a bush, so went for the trusty spade though the nest and a litre of petrol over it, match, and run. Then a shedload of and powder over what was left of smouldering wasps.

Had to be done, too many kids about and you know what they are like for messing. I dont got stung 4 times :s.

But anyway, i wouldent worry too much, unless there is a nest. Its getting cold now so might just kill em all off.

they are foraging getting ready for winter, and at this time of year they turn nasty, if you call the council they will charge you for killing the nest, offer it out to any fishermen you know, they may dig it out for you

failing that get two or three tins of wasp killer and attack it at night, or if you are brave, get the family away, squirt a bottle of fairy washing up liquid into the enterance and run like hell, good luck

See. These little beasties are sneaky! they know the seasons and winter is coming so they are stocking up enough food to see them through, yesterday i watched a squirrel take apple,s and move them away without eating them, they know that to survive they have to have a larder of food to get them through the winter
