i am after getting a new fridge and freezer and the currys delivery information excludes installation of fridges/freezers on the grounds they have to stand for 24 hours afore use

now i am assuming that this is to let the refrudgerant settle back befire it is used but am i really being led to believe that anyone who buys a fridge or moves home waits a day before they use it?

what are the hazards involved in using it after only about an hour stood?

You can cause problems with pressure, and also it can cause the refrigerant to pool and then when you start it, it puts excess strain on the compressor.

If you want a more detailed answer, I can find out (I work at a firm that makes commecial refrigeration solutions) I can ask one of our genius fridge designers, if you so wish.

It's best to leave it the 24 hours - chances are it will be ok if only left for a few hours but seeing as though the warranty won't cover it then it's not worth the risk.

It is indeed because of allowing the refrigerant to settle but it isn't always 24hrs. The 24hr rule is for when the fridge\freezer has been horizontal. If it's been kept upright then (as we generally do on delivery) then it can be plugged in straight away. We've been doing this for years and haven't had a problem.
