View Full Version : Music channels-are there too many?
When flicking through the music channels you can usually find at least 2 with the same song on at any one time.
There seems to be too many concentrating on pop and chart, like smash hits, kiss, flaunt, ure channel, the box,milk,zest,donkey....aaarrrggghhh!!!!
Sorry got carried away there, need to lay down for a bit!
BrainThrust 18-01-2004, 16:35 I don't think there are too many, they just all play the same crap, bring back the days of the Shakira video! (the one where she shakes her arse and the ground explodes)
I have been known to waste an afternoon/evening watchign music channels, there is something addictive about them, despite it mostly being crap.
At least MTV2 is there...
Wilf
I never watch the music channels apart from brief viewing of the 80s days VH1 shows on Saturdays so I wouldn't care all that much if they weren't available.
jackthedog 19-01-2004, 08:27 Dunno if there is too many of them, but they seem to be on a cycle of about 15 songs. If you watch for about half an hour, you end up seeing the same crap again.
A few of them say you call in to select the song you want, but I dont know anybody who does - or has ever done - this.

I agree.
I like to switch Smash hits on at the weekend. It is mostly crap, but isn't it something to do with the scenery, like in the Shakira video, that keeps you watching?
I don't think there's too many, but if anymore get put on air then it might start getting a bit too much. At least there's a channel for most music tastes.
However, I agree that the same songs are repeated a lot and sometimes are on different channels at the same time. Seems unnecessary when there's so many songs! I think that could definately be improved. I sometimes end up getting sick of a song because it's on all the time.
My friend is quite cynical about ringing up to vote for a song. She reckons all the songs are on a loop so no matter what you vote for it's gonna come up soon anyway!
I watch the Antiques Rock Show on Scuzz quite a bit and I've noticed that there's hardly any songs to choose from. So the chances of them playing a song you would vote for are quite high, especially as it's usually on for an hour with advert breaks every 10-15 minutes or so.
fnkysknky 21-01-2004, 15:36 Don't see how there could be too many music channels although having to put up with chart/pop crap gets annoying I can always find at least one decent tune to listen to out of them all. I can quite happily spend a large amount of time flicking through just the music channels :D
If you flick through the channels fast enough you can make your own club mix.lol
There is just about the right amount at the moment,my main gripe is when watching some of them,it has a flash in corner.
Example being shakira weekend, what do you get ?,hours of westlife.
Wheres the justice these days ?.
I don't think there is too many. I find that hardly any music channels cater for my tastes.

I think that's the same for me. I probably should have posted a different question, I just think there's too many that play chart and pop, if you want specialist channels you have to pay extra.
The selection is poor, MTV2 has gone crap as well, what happened to the MUSIC part?
The Amp and VH2 are the best IMO

Yes, I'd go along with that. There is too many who play the same type music.
One thing that annoys me about all those channels is the adverts! They are all for loan, insurance and personal accident companies. The majority of the people who watch these channels are too young for loans, are covered under their parent's insurance and the chances of them tripping over a bucket at work (let alone leaving the TV room) are pretty slim.
Bah humbug :P
If they are going to spam the viewers with ads then they could at least be relevant... then again showing ads on Sky (on any channel) is a joke - what do we pay the £18+ a month for?!
Absolutely agree on the adverts. What makes me laugh is why do they bother having adverts. Does anyone really sit and watch them....no...as soon as they come on, you flick onto another music channel! I would say that there are not too many channels as you need more so that you can find more music when the adverts are on. They sometimes clash so you have adverts on several at the same time so the more channels the better! I can usually find something I like.
Y'all need to listen to some Country music and then you'll really be depressed.

i once requested a song on kerrang. had to wait 2hrs for it to be played. never again
Once I stupidly requested 3 songs on the Antiques Rockshow and only 1 came up within the duration of the program. I don't bother anymore. I like most of the songs anyway so I'll let someone else pay for them! :)
