View Full Version : Goths In Sheffield cazzaworld 17-01-2004, 22:55 Tonight when I was in Sheffield town centre I noticed a lot of goths around. Very scarey, completely terrified me. Skatiechik 18-01-2004, 14:48 They are only normal people who enjoy a different image and music taste. I have plenty of friends who are into the Goth Image and scene they have never scared me. To be honest I could say the same about townies, all hanging around in gangs with the latest brand name clothing. Please don't judge people on what they wear or what music they choose to listen to. I think theres a contradiction in there somewhere. fatjohn 18-01-2004, 16:09 How does one recognise a Goth? What do they look like exactly? Tony 18-01-2004, 16:30 The fangs are often a bit of a giveaway :) BrainThrust 18-01-2004, 16:48 Some guidelines to follow concerning Goths (not meant to be insulting, i've got a lot of goth friends, luckily not the pretentious types) Goths can be sub divided into 7 groups: Perky, Mopey, Artsy, Spanky, Punky, Pretentious and Poser Goths are fickle creatures, trying to get them to go anywhere you want is rather like herding cats. Wilf fatjohn 18-01-2004, 17:15 They are not easily identifiable then? Spanky sounds interesting cazzaworld 18-01-2004, 17:50 I wasn't trying to discrimnate. Its just when I was walking to the tram stop, everywhere I looked there was goths everywhere. They did't terrify me, it just seemed I looked like the outsider. That was the terrifying thought. Skatiechik 18-01-2004, 18:34 Originally posted by mr craig I think theres a contradiction in there somewhere. No contradiction, I said to be honest I COULD but didn't say I would! Orginially posted by BrainThrustGoths can be sub divided into 7 groups: Perky, Mopey, Artsy, Spanky, Punky, Pretentious and Poser Goths are fickle creatures, trying to get them to go anywhere you want is rather like herding cats. Very true I like that :) SatanInHeels 18-01-2004, 18:46 if you are talking aroung 8-9.30 on a saturday night then that is when everyone from k-corp is oing to McDonalds or going home!! very likely to find large amounts of goths, skaters, punks n just general rockers!!! McDonalds is a place to avoid till about 9 if you dont wanna sit with them aswell!! Chris_Sleeps 18-01-2004, 20:09 Its good to know rebellion is still alive. McDonalds - rock on!! :) Chris. DaBouncer 18-01-2004, 20:32 I kinda like the look of the goth image... i think it looks quite cool. Not something i'd wear but still looks alright! Plus the music is wicked! SatanInHeels 18-01-2004, 20:52 Originally posted by Chris_Sleeps Its good to know rebellion is still alive. McDonalds - rock on!! :) Chris. haha!! yea its the place to be!! GazB 19-01-2004, 09:52 Here's a generalised comment- A Goth's only hobby is finding something else that they hate.. for them to whinge about. They think they have life hard when their local supermarket runs out of their favourite nail varnish. Basically, they watched too much T.V when they were younger and should have gotten out more. Their dress/music tastes don't particularly bother me, just the attitudes.. in general. I know some people that dress like Goth's but are good people, not the type to stand outside Town Hall all day dishing looks and passing judgement to passer's-by. So, how many contradictions are in there? SatanInHeels 19-01-2004, 13:41 Originally posted by GazB Here's a generalised comment- A Goth's only hobby is finding something else that they hate.. for them to whinge about. So, how many contradictions are in there? now we are having a debate about this in science!! there is a group of 4 of us here, one a townie, one a skater, one goth and me. how does anyone work out that goths only hobby is finding something to hate, yes some goths can be like this and i do know a few, but then i think you wil find most goths actually do have hobbies like music for example!! playing in bands etc. but tracksuit boys n girls for example... what hobbies do they have! and saying that goths stand and pass judgement at passers by and stare at them etc. well.. at least there isnt all that many goths who will actually cause trouble by shouting abuse at people who dont dress or think they way they do!!! im not having a go at u GazB, before i am accused of it, but that really isnt all that fair! Funky Dave 19-01-2004, 19:36 Anyone ever been to that Whitby goth event? I'd love to go, but I'd stick out like a sore thumb in my t-shirt and jeans;) . BrainThrust 19-01-2004, 20:07 I've been, as an avid reader of dracula (many times over) i was interested to see how wrapped up in the psuedo-sexual bullsh*t of the recent film. Frankly even though i'm not a goth i found it great and met some really cool people who, despite the stereotype, weren't depressed or pretentious. I would like to go again as i love Whitby, i just liike the cobbled streets. The kippers from there are good too. Wilf ummyorkshire 29-01-2004, 23:49 i've been to Whitby goth weekend twice and its wonderful everyone accepts everyone ,you will never be frowned upon .spit at ,beaten up,or stared at ,by goths . Its the so called normal ppl who do that Fairydreams 30-01-2004, 09:06 Easiest description is by example: Below are some gothic models: http://www.differentlight.co.uk/Gall.html Note the amount of black and the presence of gravestones in many of the pics. neeeeeeeeeek 30-01-2004, 09:20 http://industrialgothic.com/gbotw/ top site DaBouncer 30-01-2004, 09:25 Now you guys (who dont like the goth look) can't tell me in all honesty this (http://www.differentlight.co.uk/mo8.html) and this (http://www.differentlight.co.uk/mo1.html) isn't a sexy looking Goth chick. *Insert wolf whistle smiley here 10 times* Daveyboy 30-01-2004, 09:27 goth's i can sort of accept (apart from the one's that hang around my office and the city hall dam gothy scate punk kids).............. but WHITBY whats that all about !!!!!! ;-p GazB 30-01-2004, 12:50 One thing I forgot to mention.. I find goth women extremely sexy, especially the ones outlined by DaBouncer. She's top quality. :D DaBouncer 30-01-2004, 13:10 I'll echo that sentiment GazB... me too! Mosherchik 30-01-2004, 13:38 Originally posted by SatanInHeels i aint a goth, well not really. and as for liking the gothic image... anyone who has seen my boyfriend... nuff said. I thought your boyfriend looked cool! :headbang: I have often been accused of being a goth, I think it may be the obssession with the colour black in my wardrobe (okay sometimes I wear pink but it tends to be of the luminous punk variety) I wear eyeliner, black nail varnish *it hides dirty nails  * I have a dog collar and I wear a big floor length goth coat.... Ok I see the point! I think I probly fit in the punky goth pigeonhole...with a bit of stoner indie rocker thrown in for good measure  I like goths...fantastic make up but could not be bothered to do it every morning and being a goth in the summer is awful! :loopy: GazB 30-01-2004, 14:02 Corr.. I can't get over how sexy Morgana is. Give me a few hours with her anyday ;) GazB 02-02-2004, 07:44 What a t!t. Get a hobby. BrainThrust 03-02-2004, 01:08 yeah Gaz, wish we all could be a understanding and as open to humour as you are. perhaps all of use should get a hobby instead of simply flaming eachother, i know i'm sick of conflict. Wilf tombodojoj 03-02-2004, 17:35 recipe for arrogant and ignorant people to learn something: take one goth (can replace this ingredient with sk8r, punk, rocker, etc) take one townie switch clothes, now who do you judge?same person different clothes anyone really that shallow out there? or another way, everybody stop wearing clothes.then what will you judge on? skin? thats racist, sex? that sexist, there is a name for people who judge people on WHATEVER REASON. IGNORANT ****. peace. Chris_Sleeps 03-02-2004, 22:09 Originally posted by tombodojoj or another way, everybody stop wearing clothes.then what will you judge on? skin? thats racist, sex? that sexist, there is a name for people who judge people on WHATEVER REASON. IGNORANT ****. I hate it when people compare being judged on clothes to other forms of prejudice. Black people can't change the colour of their skin, men/women can't change their gender (in all technicality), but a grumpy 14 year old can control how much black clothing they choose to wear. Its hardly a fair comparison is it? Chris. SatanInHeels 05-02-2004, 12:05 so why exactly does it matter how much black clothing someone is wearing? does it make any difference to you.. say if someone wearing a black top or a pink one? does it matter if someone is wearing baggy trousers or tight jeans? does it make any difference whether someone is wearing new rocks or bright pink stilettos??? it does not chage who they are. they are still the same person without the clothing!!! i am friends with many townies, goths, moshers, punks and just people who you generally can not put into a category how hard you try!!! grow up and looks past peoples clothing and make-up. think about it.. does it really matter in the end? there are many grumpy 14 year old townies im sure!!! fnkysknky 05-02-2004, 12:07 Who gives a **** what people are in to? You either like 'em as a person or you don't, what they wear and listen to is irrelevant, well it should be anyway. I don't hate anyone because of the way they dress, i was just complaining about how people compare the prejudice they receive from clothes to racism and sexism. A man who wears nail varnish does not have an anecestry who lived in slavery, does he? His complaints about being looked down upon fail in comparison, thats what i'm complaining about. Point me to where i said anything remotely prejudice and you can have a go at me. Chris. Chris. sorry i wasnt having a go at u specifically.. i just used a couple of things from your post. i agree that it is not related in any way to racism etc. but it is still a big problem.. and something that really annoys me as i am on the recieving end of it quite a lot!! sorry if i offended you in any way stitch 06-02-2004, 09:53 Originally posted by SatanInHeels now we are having a debate about this in science!! there is a group of 4 of us here, one a townie, one a skater, one goth and me. wow i gots mentioned before i was even joined on this chat! me is the skater i thinks! stitch xXx Classic Rock 06-02-2004, 10:02 If anyone knows any local goth bands, we are happy to let them play at the Classic Rock Bar. If they are established with a reasonable following, ask them to get in touch! Lestat 13-04-2004, 21:55 Can someone let me know when the next goth weekend in Whitby is please. I'd love to go. I really like the goth look, these people should be commended for looking cool, sexy and scary! what a combination. FairyNormal 14-04-2004, 09:05 Jeeeez this makes me feel so old!! I'm now 35 and was a Goth from the age of 13. I used to swan around school in black velvet, pointed buckle boots from Rebinas and a long black coat that was part of a Vicars Vestments rescued from our local church during a refit!! I kinda morphed from Goth into hardcore punk by my late teens, complete with mohican. AHhhhh those were the days!! Now ......??? Ahhhhhhhhh I'm all boring a mumsy. Sob sob!!!! evildrneil 14-04-2004, 09:55 Originally posted by FetishFairy Ahhhhhhhhh I'm all boring a mumsy. Sob sob!!!! I'm not sure you could ever pass as boring!!! Good job really 'cos you won't see them in much else And yes that's a joke before anyway starts :P fittdiva 14-04-2004, 18:55 Originally posted by cazzaworld Tonight when I was in Sheffield town centre I noticed a lot of goths around. Very scarey, completely terrified me. grow up lovely. they wear different clothes to us, and like different music to us, but you would be better off being scared of a sheffield scallie who is liable to mug you. goths keep themselves to themselves. they dont go out looking for trouble:loopy: thenewborn 14-04-2004, 20:32 i think goths are great, the imagery is brilliant, andi do like the music o occasion. i would love to dress the way they do, (eye liner / nail varnish) but ot alowed lol cazzaworld 14-04-2004, 21:30 fittdiva, I wasn't scared of them being Goths. It was just seemed scarey that every where I looked there were Goths everywhere. If that makes sense. Cyclone 15-04-2004, 07:51 I find it amusing that Goths like to be different and 'rebel'. But then they all go and hang out toghether, where they aren't different and fit in... Just tickles me. fnkysknky 15-04-2004, 09:31 Originally posted by Cyclone I find it amusing that Goths like to be different and 'rebel'. Rich 15-04-2004, 15:25 Cos they don't get much sunlight, it probably kills 'em you see  Bedhead 15-04-2004, 15:34 ahh vampire type things then :D can't they wear sunglasses then? 8) wouldn't that protect them?? Andy78 15-04-2004, 15:52 At the end of the day they are just kids who like the same things and hang around together. Which is ptretty much what everyone does at some point, hang around with like minded people. I used to be quite a grunge kid. Obviously have grown out of that now. As fitdiva said, they are harmless, i'd always prefer to surrounded by goths than scallies. I wouldn't change that for the world Cyclone 17-04-2004, 08:39 Originally posted by Rich Lol, the estate agent probably sells them the shop in which they conduct said business :) in which case the estate agent would sell to anyone who can produce the $$$ I expect most properties are rented though, and the sticking point is getting a business plan approved by the bank to lend you the initial capital to start. Estate agents serve a minor and uninfluential role in the process. crazyperson 29-03-2005, 20:35 Originally posted by SatanInHeels if you are talking aroung 8-9.30 on a saturday night then that is when everyone from k-corp is oing to McDonalds or going home!! very likely to find large amounts of goths, skaters, punks n just general rockers!!! hehe...im 1 of those...and we're not actually that scary, just maybe a little hyper. or that could just be me... mcflurries + being with people i only get to see once a week = hyperness...not that anyone wanted to know that but oh well...bye x x x simjns 31-03-2005, 13:20 talking about goths, dont forget batfink next fri at aqua Deavon 02-06-2005, 15:59 Originally posted by Bedhead i'm not fussed about goths - don't know any, never have but like fnkysknky each to their own but what are goths supposed to be about and why do they all look so pale?!
