We fly off to Puerto Del Carmen tomorrow morning  and was wondering if anybody else has been and what is there to do and see?

You may want to pack something wind-proof and maybe a kite...

great for sailing and that's about it. Although a visit to the volcano is pretty good.

Hiya Bensonhedges, how long are you going for?

Puerto del Carmen is a bit like the Blackpool of Lanzarote so you won't be short of pubs/clubs/restaurants.

I think one of the most beautiful places i've ever seen is Jameos Del Agua it's towards the north-east of the island and is a 'must see'. If you're anything like me you could easily spend several hours there - it's basically made from a giant airbubble in the lava rocks.

The other place I would consider a 'must see' is Timanfaya and the Volcanos when you get there a coach will take you round the volcano's and then they will demonstrate the thermal activity still present on the island.

Both places are easily accessible if you hire a car for a couple of days. If you do hire a car try to drive down to the south of the island and visit Papagayo and Playa Blanca the first being a beautiful cove and sandy beach, the latter being a lovely bay with plenty of bars along the front but less commercialised than Puerto del Carmen.

If you happen to see any sports stars or hear of any staying on the Island then they will most likely be staying at Club la Santa which is in a fairly quiet little spot on the west coast of the island, it's a warm-weather training centre and used by many sports people and clubs/teams.

Go on the yellow submarine! It's at Puerto Calero (nice snazzy new harbour, good restaurants too), and it's good fun. It takes about 45 minutes, after it submerges, they take you out round the bay/shoreline and you get to see lots of lovely fish, including a massive manta ray which comes right up to the windows of the sub so you can watch it feed.
