View Full Version : Unwanted Phone Calls
tinajones 17-01-2004, 16:58 If you are like me and HATE recieving marketing phone calls from sales people from companies you have no interest in then read on...
I have just been made aware of a service that makes it illegal for such companies to contact and pester you and its free! It takes 28 days to activate then such companies can be fined around £5,000 for bugging you when you are trying to cook your tea or whatever!
Visit the Telephone Preference Service on:

Marvellous!
mr craig 17-01-2004, 17:00 Good call. LOL
cosywolf 17-01-2004, 17:20 I'm registered on TPS, and it does work.
I think I've received two unsolicited sales call in the last 18 months, and both hung up with major apologies and creeping when I suggested they were breaking the law by phoning someone on TPS.
Same goes for MPS (Mail Preferencing). Now all I get is the junk mail for past tenants. And again, BT started with two cold postings (we're not with BT) and I called them to nip it in the bud, remindind them to check the registers, and got a phone apology from a semi-bigwig ten minutes later.
Lesson: it doesn't stop it all dead, but when they do get through, they are breaking the law, and you can righteously have a go:D
Cosy:P
Sounds good, i'm always getting pesterd.
Registered for it about a year ago and it appears to have had the desired effect so I can recommend it to people who don't want to be disturbed my marketing idiots.
Being ex-directory and ticking 'no' to marketing communications when buying products and services also helps
Whenever a friend of mine had to fill in a form with his details he would always write his name and address in a slightly different fashion to normal - then whenever he received some mail from somewhere he hadn't registered with he would phone the original company and play hell as he knew where it must have come from.
Only works I guess with a limited number of places.
Sam Miguel 18-01-2004, 11:19 I would make a fortune! Thanks for making me aware!
Sam Miguel 18-01-2004, 11:26 I just registered. By the way, that link is wrong.
Try this (http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tpsr/html/default.asp) instead. :)
Thanks T020
I got totally confused by the Transport Planning Society.
I thought it was me.
I'm going to sign my parents up for it.
edited the first post to reflect the proper address
purplepippa 18-01-2004, 18:22 I have BT block all calls to my landline which come from withheld numbers... not a single sales call since! Yey!
i am so sick of returning from work, trying to cook a meal, only to be bombarded with phone calls trying to sell me a kitchen, mobile phone, double glazing, or telling me i have won a holiday - it should be outlawed - i am going to buy a very loud whistle and hope they blacklist me!

im in the same boat as you..ever since i moved house 3m ago that all i get...i dont get many calls now from people i know,i did use to stop incomming call that with held the number, that did stop it,but people like the dr's could not get threw..i have heard that they a number u can tap into ur phone, you have to do this every so offtern to stop the calls.im waiting on that number from a freind who told me about it,but if anyone knows it in mean time could you pass it on.
Apollo_C 22-06-2005, 08:25 All phone calls are unwanted...bah!!!! :P
poor buggers, im always hanging up on em
I too am registered for this service
But you need to know that it only stops calls from within this country. The ones about winning holidays etc come from abroad mainly so you still get those.
The other thing you can do which is quite useful is to list your telephone number as directory enquiries only.
This means you are not in the book but if someone rings the operator and asks for your number, they will be given it.
HTH
How can you stop unwanted phone calls, the link in this old thread don't work anymore...i want to stop double glazing and other waste of time calls..any ideas anyone?
The BT phone display idea is ok as advertised on telly if you have that kind of phone.

The calls i get are usually like that too, all to do with alterations and repairs to the house, i own the house, but i always say.
'sorry i just rent the place'.
funny the never then ask for the landlords name ect, eventually the calls stop, they must take me off the 'homeowners list'.

filan001 06-03-2010, 03:47 Hi There,
Maybe is not a right place to ask this info, but i will highly appriciate your help. Ok this is the issue,
Its been like a month that i got calls from those number:
+61395803726

And they call me like in the middle of the night, so in every morning when i woke up i see missed calls, i try to answer them but they dont talk. If anyone has any idea, about those number i will appriciate that. does any knows to which country/state belong those numbers, or what phone operator or something like that... i tried like hundred times to call them back, but no one answer the phone.
Thank You very much,
