I have just moved to Sheffield and I was wondering where the best indie clubs where?

Hi Claire, best bet is the Leadmill on Wednesday night or Corporation upstairs on a Friday night. If you're a student then the Fuzz Club on a Thursday at the Sheff Union is also reccomended:thumbsup:

As mentioned Corp on a friday upstairs is cool , and fuzz club where new small bands play (clor played there this week)
But leadmill on a wednesday and monday in the small room is indie and cheap also main room saturday nights.
Brighton Beach at sheffield union is great and thats once a month (check there website for next date im sure its next friday)
Also places like casbah(spelling?) are worth a visit and places like the grapes&boardwalk have live music everynight if not most nights a week.

For gigs the room ,the leadmill ,octagon(sheff uni) and the two pubs mentioned between them they have some great acts from the larger made it bands to the nearly theres to the local bands.

They have live bands on at The Howard on Mondays before the Leadmill. Its a good night.

I'm plugging my own band but come down. :D

It would more be where isnt there an indie night at the moment, Kingdom has started up an alternative indie night on a Thursday, which is on the same night as Fuzz Club (it doesnt mtter if you are a student, it is open to the public) also Casbah on a Thursday night is good to. Mondays, is prety much the Leadmill, or you can go to the Harley which is open till midnight and is free to get into and have bands playing as well. Tuesday I am uncertain about, Wednesday, well the Leadmill now has indie in the main room and 80's electronic pop in the smaller room. But also there is Skool Disko at Corporation, there will alos be a new night starting up called Unknown Pleasures at The Room on a Wednesday also. I have also heard rumours the Plug will be having some form of indie night also, but what night this will be on I am uncertain.

Also Plan B @ Hallam Union on Wednesdays is gonna be hell cool. Indie / New Wave / Electro badness.

I think you can get into fuzz club on thursday if you not a student

Its a quid in for the first one too, which isn't too bad :)

No-one seems to have mentioned offbeat. Its been voted the best indie club in Britain by Radio 1, and is on at the University every month. But you don't need to be a student to go, I don't think.

Was actually radio 6, it was a text vote, I remember the time I went they were telling every one to vote.

Next one if Friday 14th October; worth noting that whilst it runs from 9pm to 1am you often need to turn up a bit earlier to join to queue to guarantee getting in - our venue is very intimate!

Can recommend this. Great tunes, kinda crappy venue...but intimate ;)

As far as I know you either need a student card or need to go with someone who has a student card to get in as a guest. At least this is what we were told when I went with someone without a card once (he had to go back to get his so he could get us in).

there is 1917 club starting at d n r live. Looks like the most indie indie night but the venue is pretty small

We played at this last Friday. They have a few bands on (generally up and coming signed bands) from 9, and a club until 2am. It was a very good night, as I remember.

To get in to the SU building to access Offbeat you can either be signed in by a student or email us in advance and be put on a non-students door-list so you don't have to be signed in.

At least 50% of our regular crowd are non-students so it seems to work OK

Venue is being renovated and enlarged slightly at Christmas!

You dont have to be a student, just get tickets in advance, from Students Union box office, or Jacks Records.

It's all about the fuzz! No other indie night comes close in terms of fun/cheap snakebite!

Try the CASBAR.

Its indie/rock.

Its more hardcore and less prententious than the student walleys

Yeh, I've always thought the piles of pink vomit at fuzz were quite pretentious.
