pattricia 23-09-2005, 22:29 Not quite sure what part of the Forum this question should go under, but you can move it if you want. What do those envelopes to the left of the postings mean.
1.A full plain envelope
2.An envelope in blue that has rays coming out of the top
3.An envelope with papers peeping out of the top
4.A blue envelope with no rays

1) Not too sure (do you mean a white envelope)
2) means that there are more than 10 replies to that topic
3) Means that there are new posts in that topic
4) No new posts and not many replies to the topic.
Also if an envelope has a dot in the middle of it, it means that you have posted in that topic.
Kristian 23-09-2005, 22:41 Hi Pattricia,
Go to the bottom of this page, (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=4) and scroll to the very bottom; the answer is there! In addition, any of the envelopes with a dot in them mean it's a thread you have contributed to.
Hope this helps.

If you hover your mouse over where it says 'buddies' it should tell you there, its like that with most things.
As to what it means, if you click on it, it lets you add that particular poster to your 'buddy' list. Just basically a list of friends.

Spyro's right. It adds the user to your buddy list which can be useful: If you click on the 'Your Options' link on the left hand side of the page it shows you the people on your Buddy List, and whether they are online or not (but always shows them as offline if they choose to browse the forum anonymously!)
And thanks for the nice comments guys! :)

I find it useful as a 'shortcut' to PMing people without having to hunt about searching for posts by that user; alternatively, I could go to a previous message from that user and then hit reply and change the subject title, and wipe that message, but that takes ages to do!
:)
P.S: The similarity between the 'real' you and the previous cartoon-style avatar, are uncanny.
:D
