View Full Version : TGI Fridays recommendations
OwlsChick 23-09-2005, 01:05 PM Ok Heres the thing,
Me and my Other Half have a table booked for tonight at tgi fridays. Just really wondered if anyone who has been has any recomendations? Im a big Meat eater so anything that involves a bit of meat is ok.
Whats the jack daniels menu like?
Any nice cocktails i should try? Stronger the better
Thanx People
the_rudeboy 23-09-2005, 01:44 PM My recommendation would be to cancel the booking and go somewhere else. In my experience there (two visits) the portions are small, food average and very overpriced.
averageman 23-09-2005, 02:14 PM I would second that. The place is terrible!
OwlsChick 23-09-2005, 02:20 PM You see thats what happens when you let the man book the table, hahaha
Thanx anywayz You 2
nick2 23-09-2005, 02:33 PM Their starters are quite nice, but realy overpriced.
The main meals are poor and very small.
Same goes for Old Orleans.
Ousetunes 23-09-2005, 02:34 PM It IS quite expensive and it's not the best food in the world.
However - and this could seriously lead to you to cancel your booking - they're great with kids!!
You get the picture, balloons, screaming kids and not much change from a £50 note (for the two of you. You could have eaten twice at Yankees for that!!).
As for the cocktails, I can't say because I've always been driving (it not being the kind of venue you just happen to come upon).
You might have a nice time, but if my last couple of visits are anything to go by, you'll just be thinking that
a) you've spent too much; and
b) that the food was average.
I sincerely hope you prove me wrong but one thing I agree with: go for the strongest cocktails (esp if your other half is paying?).

SHsheff 23-09-2005, 03:25 PM I agree with everyone else!
Cancel and go elsewhere....... but not to nearby Centertainment either! Do you have to eat in that area?

We all make the mistake once......twice in my case. :gag:
pete_jim 23-09-2005, 04:08 PM If it's meat you're after (and aren't we all dear) then get down to Zuegma Turkish Cafe on London Road. Fab Kebabs with loads of salads, flatbreads & couscous. The mixed kebab is a meatfest.
OwlsChick 23-09-2005, 04:17 PM Just had a look at the menu, thanx for who ever sent me the link!

TGI Mushrooms
Snuggle up beside a plate of our crispy, golden-battered mushrooms, ready to dive into our tangy lime, cilantro and garlic mayonnaise.
£4.45 !!!!!
Five quid for mushrooms !!!!
Greenback 23-09-2005, 05:33 PM I presume we're not talking Shiitake, Porcini or Portabella 'shrooms! No mention of truffle-infused oil, either. Hmm.
I've been to TGI's and the prices are a bit steep. It's a bit contrived as well, but to be fair there are far worse places to grab some grub with a few mates.
fnkysknky 23-09-2005, 07:19 PM Well there must just be me who enjoys it then. Decent food (I happen to love Jack Daniels tho) and loads of drink. Mind you my old housemate works there and I always end up with loads of stuff for free or cheap so it's all good :D
youwhatref 24-09-2005, 12:09 PM I also fine it ok fnkysknky, good service and surroundings. The food is decent although as already stated the portions aren't that great for what you pay. We use it as a change and occasional treat.
bobby22 24-09-2005, 04:46 PM I think that TGI's is one of the best places to eat!! The jack daniels sauce is awesome!! I tried to buy some off them it's that nice, but they said no.
I do think it's expensive, but it is awesome.
Recommend the Big time Square Share starter, well nice!! and then either the Jack daniels ribs, jack daniels burger or the jack daniels chicken salad.
Not been for a couple of months, so think i might go this week.
thanks for the reminder!!
jamesogt 24-09-2005, 05:48 PM Go to uncle sams on eccy rd or yankees both far better than wasting u r time at tgi's!!!
I just checked the online menu...
:wow: £8.95 for 10 potato skins! :wow:
I'm not known for being tight in restaurants, but that takes some beating - the thick end of a tenner for a couple of spuds with cheese on!
And what's with all the Jack Daniels ® nonsense too? I can't think of many thing less likely to entice me than fried food laced with whiskey.
We've only been once, and frankly, it was pants. I see I won't be dropping anytime soon in future.
OwlsChick 25-09-2005, 05:48 PM Well Just to put an end to things
i had potato skinz (5) for starters they was about a fiver
Jack daniels baby back ribs (half rack) with that i got friday fries and onion rings (that fell apart) that was 8 pound something
i also had a side corn cob which was a fiver.
My boyfriend shared my starters, he had a jackdaniels ultimate burger, with friday fries and onion rings. which cost 12pound something
i must have had about 5cocktails all at around a fiver.
and some shooterz.
all round very very very expensive night, but well worth it.
SHsheff 25-09-2005, 05:58 PM I'm glad it was well, well, well worth it! I guess it was the company that made it enjoyable, because the prices you quote would be enough to spoil an evening if the rest wasn't magic enough to compensate.... :)
Donna_Row 26-09-2005, 11:03 AM I agree TGI's is rather expensive but there website has monthly vouchers you can print off. This months can be found here:
http://www.tgifridays.co.uk/promotion/september_third_off_partner/?source=search
MissGobby 26-09-2005, 12:56 PM i went there with my blokes mum and her friends, when the food actually came, it was hardly warm, so we complained and they just stood there as if to say "yeah...and what do ya want me to do?" , so we asked to see the manager who said he would warm it up! so basically he wanted to shove it in the microwave, we said no, it would have been more minging than eating it cold :gag: , so we had to eat it! and the prices, well i dont think ive ever had to pay £10(or around that) for a little dirty hamburger with a few lettuce leaves, i would'nt go there againl would rather have gone to McDonalds for a happymeal!
hotbertaa 19-10-2005, 02:24 PM TGI is in the wrong price bracket, I'm quite happy to pay £30.00 for a bottle of wine and meal for two, but what i got at TGI Fridays was a long way short in terms of quality.
1> My Wifes ribs were cold
2> The onion rings fell apart when I tried to pick them up (most likely re-heated)
3> This is my mistake, I asked the lady what the difference was between a regular and ultimate burger, i was expecting a shift in size, she said you get one extra burger in the bun, I didnt think much of this, but after eating an extra dry heavy burger I realised i'd paid an extra £2.50 for the pleasure.
4> The chips were chips, nothing different to your local kebab shop.
All in all disappointing, I wouldnt have minded complaining, but who wants to spoil a night out with the lady?
you wouldnt buy a ford escort for £30,000, so dont buy a burger here, save your money and go somewhere nice.
fnkysknky 19-10-2005, 07:13 PM The onion rings at TGI's do fall apart - that's the way they are.
SlinkyMinky 19-10-2005, 08:49 PM I thought it was way too expensive years ago, even when I had some vouchers to minimise the blow!!!
Never been back since and never intend to either. There are so so so so so many nice places to eat in Sheffield. All it takes is a modicum of thought and not to go down the same old route.
Boho on Campo Lane is just one example.
I pity the poor bloke who had to shell out for it all. Perhaps he has learnt a valuable lesson.
By the way, why don't I find girls that are so easy to please !!!
Sam:hihi:
johntwotone 19-10-2005, 11:20 PM i love this place, its great.....
alternageek 20-10-2005, 10:16 PM no matter where in the world you are, fridays is crap.
its terrible back home and ugh.
rule of thumb, stay away from chains.
Blessing 21-10-2005, 12:16 AM Is TGI Fridays your only choice ? If you fancy Thai Food I would recommend a nice Thai Restaurant at London Road called Siam Inter Thai, http://www.matthew77.com/reviews.php?id=90&area=S

Any establishment that replaces the S with a Z (potato skinz) should be avoided like the plague.
