Just ran a Google search and got this message...

We're sorry...
... but we can't process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.
To continue searching, please type the characters you see below:

...I typed in the characters and Google processed my search etc

I have since ran my AVG Free Edition, Spybot Search and Destroy and my Ad-aware SE but nothing showed...

I am now confused and concerned??

Any help/advice???

I don't think it meant your PC specifically, more likely it meant it was getting requests from similar IP addresses as yours.

google does this occasionally, it probably blocked a large IP range and not just yours. you'll probably find it will return soon.

it could also be dependent on what you're searching for -- it doesn't like inurl:viewtopic queries and filters them out: http://www.google.com/search?q=inurl%3Aviewtopic&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

if must use google during this time, go to www.megaproxy.com, press 'try it free' and type in google's URL there. (or use another free web proxy).

If the characters that Google asked you to type where show in a graphic format (mis-shapen picture), it is likely that they were wanting to eradicate automated searchers.
The average automated searcher would not have been able to read the characters and would have been knocked offline.

You could read them, which proves that you are a red furry toy, and so allowed you to continue!
