Had his Real Madrid debut after 12 months sidelined with injury:
Scores OG after 25 mins
Gets 1st yellow card on 45 mins
Gets second yellow and sent off on 66 mins

Must've been making up for lost time.....

I feel sorry for the poor sod :?

All this time out and he has the worst game of his life in front of all those fans

He'll be back to normal in a few more games. I think he's real quality, although i think RM will get rid of him as soon as he hits any type of form.

Coming from Newcastle, I find the Woodgate saga funnier by the minute :)

Until recently Newcastle were laughing their heads off, 17 months wages they hadn't been paying for him. Trouble is Madrid got their own back selling Owen for 16 million, so advantage Madrid I think now! :hihi:

Watched the game last night and to be honest the only thing I could see wrong with Woody was he was ring rusty, needs more matches. Unfortunately I don't think Madrid have a reserve team as such, so he can't get more fitness that way. Added to that, they have just sold Walter Samuel so they have a shortage in the centre of the defence, the manager obviously thought he would be okay.
The own-goal, well was pure bad luck I thought, could have gone anywhere.
He's a good player and I'm sure he'll prove his class over the next few months, trouble is the manager's tenure is looking a decidedly dodgy at the moment so he may end up on the move again

well....... either way the madrid fans gave him a standing ovation as he walked from the pitch.

i think woody will do very well for himself over there, and this game was just pure bad luck, he is also hopeful the red card will be rescinded, as the second tackle did not deserve a booking (it wont be rescinded to be honest)

but boyface....... coming from anywhere but newcastle, we all found the owen saga funnier by the minute, especially when it culminated in spending 10million too much on him. :hihi:

but.... woodgate has been unlucky, and i wish him all the best for future reference

Me two. It's harsh to ridicule him at this stage as it's his first gameback! He'll come good if given the chance I'm sure.

In that case he should have gone to Villa then!:hihi: (or before you say it Everton);)

lol, your not wrong there. Id love to have Johnny Woodgate in our team because we are nowhere near as good as Real.I just dont think Woodgate is good enough for Real either.

Love him at Everton too Spyro. Funny though it seems so long since I saw him play competitive football...Was thinking last night that I don't think I ever saw him play for Newcastle and the only performances I do remember are the ones for Leeds, which were pretty damn good, ironically under the managership of one David O'Leary, so you never know mate!

I was going to say 'Once a Leeds United player, always a Leeds United player', but felt it was a bit harsh.....

I do feel a bit sorry for him - he does seem to be spectacularly unlucky. But you've got to admit it is pretty funny - first appearance for his club after a year or so of injury, hardly on the pitch before he scores an own goal, then gets booked, then, to add insult to injury, gets sent off! :hihi:

You couldn't write a more 'perfect' script!

It is a shame, though - he was such a promising young player.

Good job he's not on perfomance related pay or piece work

The man would be homeless and starving.

Instead he's living the life of luxury and laughing all the way to the bank.

I wish if I had a bad day at work it meant I got a 40 grand salary each week.

Footballers.....pfffff

I hope he picks form up for England's sake next summer. I don't rate Ferdinand at all.

Woodgate is a top quality centre half. I'm a Newcastle fan and during his one and only run of injury-free games he was exceptional. But therein lies the problem, he needs fitness and games and he'll prove to be a class act even at the circus that is Real Madrid, which must be the worst place for a centre half to play!

"Dont rate Ferdinand at all"??

Oh dear oh dear.
I suppose you think Sol Campbell is the way forward do you?

At the moment I'd say so! But the three, Ferdinand, Campbell and Terry, are so evenly matched I don't think it really matters that much. You could even include Carragher in that grouping too.

erm, unless you want a defender who thinks he can pass the ball like beckham and gives the ball away all the time
