Hiya,

Had a group here on a visit today, and we had a very pleasant day exploring all the historical sights of the city.

They were strangers to the city, but commented on how friendly everyone was and how impressive the city looked. Not least, the staff of the local studies department at the library were absolutely excellent and professional, helping out a visitor who was looking for information on where one of his ancestors had lived.

All in all, a really enjoyable day, primarily because of the positive attitude of everyone we came across. Only downer was the Cutlers' Hall. I rang this morning, to see if we could stand in their hallway for two minutes whilst I gave a quick historical spiel. Was told that this was impossible, that they were a commercial concern, and then the person on the phone had the audacity to try and sell me their function facilities!!!

Nevertheless, thanks to everyone else involved on making it a memorable day.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Who knows, someone from the Cutler's Hall may see the posting and rethink their policy in the future!

But thanks for letting us know! :)

But the cutlers' hall have their own arrangements for 'visitors'

Dating from 1832, the present Cutlers' Hall is the third building erected for the Cutlers' Company on the same site, facing the Cathedral. It is an imposing home for the Cutlers' Company's superb collection of silver, and is the setting for the annual celebration of Sheffield's manufacturing industry, the Cutlers' Feast.

Open: to pre-booked parties only.
Admission: adults £3, children £2, OAP £2 (subject to minimum fee).

In which case, my previous comments may be too harsh - still think they could have been a bit more helpful.

Anyway, the point of the post was a positive thanks, rather than a whinge!

ps. The group were from far and wide, but I rarely get to leave the S8-S1-S6 corridor! They have vowed to return soon.
