Does anyone know when the hurricane season 'officially' ends. I'm really hoping its before the 14 October!!!

Should I be worried??

Should I be consulting my travel insurance company regarding what I'm covered for pending a possible cancellation?

Or am I blowing this out of proportion?

Someone PLEASE tell me it will be great in October!!

Finally, subject to your answers to the above, anyone got any advice on how to tell a 5-year old 'princess' she's not going to see Cinderella in 3-weeks!!

Thanks

Orlando

You are fine. Don't worry! It's quiet a way inland and the south of Florida is the area that gets hit the most.

Have fun!

Hey can I just say, sounds like your going with kids and to Disney land? I really recommend taking the kids down slightly before it opens... Mickey comes out and welcomes the kids, it's really cool to see and the kids LOVE it.

Thanks. I'm also staying for a few days on the coast - Don Cesar on St Pete's, but thats not until the end of October/beginning of November.

PS Just been reading your recent post re Sarah Baxter - well said!

You are well clear by November. They need warm water to grow and it's cooled by then.

And thank you! I will be called anti-American, but really I am anti-ignorance especially from rich journalists who have never had to deal with poverty and should know better.

The hurricane season is officially between 1 June and 30 November, information that is not usually mentioned in brochures or by travel agents. The only clue is in the holiday price; more expensive outside the hurricane season especially in the Caribbean, Gulf coast and southern Florida.

I really wouldn't worry. I've been to Orlando 6 times and only ever seen 1 hurricane. And it wasn't even that bad, just like a really powerful thunderstorm. Floridians deal with hurricanes year after year and are very well prepared. Thankfully most are very minor but it is unlikely Orlando will ever be hit by a really powerful hurricane anyway because it is quite inland and their power drops when they hit land. Hope this helps and hope you have a wonderful time!

We were last on Orlando 2 years ago in Oct and the weather was glorious apart from one day. We were spending the day at magic kindom when the was the most awesome storm. It was incredible to watch ( as long as you had cover) and the rain was so bad that the area in front of the mission space ride was totally flooded. It didn't last long though and the fire works and parades all still went ahead.
Have a great time, Orlando is fantastic. The thing that depressed me though was despite spending hundreds on tickets for parks my kids said one of their favourite things was the machine in Mcdonads ( International drive) where you win yellow tickets and exchange them for prizes . I give up!

If it rains in orlando it's only for a few minutes and when it stops it dries up pretty quick so you'll be fine. have a great holiday... you're going to love universal studios too!

Hi
When you going over? I fly out on the 8th October. It is still (technically) hurricane season, but it very rarely affects central florida. The weather should be great too!!

Weather Channel (http://www.weather.com/activities/other/other/weather/tenday.html?locid=USFL0372&from=search_10day)
Accuweather Hurricane Center (http://hurricane.accuweather.com/hurricane/index.asp?partner=accuweather&myadc=1&traveler=0)

The first link will take you to the 10 day forecast for Orlando Florida. This week starting Monday Oct 3rd shows temperatures around 86F / 27C but thunderstorms likely due to the high humidity. You can click at the bottom to change to metric units.

Hurricane Stan is set to hit Mexico which is 1000s of miles away so no worries for Florida. Tropical depression 19 has not been named yet but will head north into the Atlantic. Right now no tropical weather set to hit Florida. However, they have predicted more storms possible as October progresses. Bring an umbrella or rain mac. It will be hot though so you won't need jeans. At night it will be also in the 80s so very warm and balmy. Maybe rainy in short bursts during the day so watch out for lightening. But I would check out the forecast so you know what to pack.

ENJOY

Tropical Storm Tammy is over Georgia and will move north to South Carolina. Anyone flying into Atlanta or Charlston this weekend? Bring a brolly! Another disturbance expected in the Gulf by Friday. It's over Cuba right now but not named yet. Just a big old rain storm probably.

Named storms still to go are Vince and Wilma then they go to Alpha, Beta, Capa, Delta, Epsilon, Gamma... etc.

You'd better bring an umbrella and a kagool if you are coming to Florida in October. It's going to be a wet week from Sunday onwards. Cozumel and Cancun in Mexico and the FL Keys have been evacuated already.
