Installing a webcam is hardly rocket science is it fgs.

I nearly posted here this morning when I first saw this thread, and thought it must be StephenH touting for business, but then was worried in case loopylaura was an innocent newbie, who thought she was being helpful. I never really thought that was the case, though:wink:

:suspect:

No I think that you're safe. :)

We often get emails on the helpdesk at SF from people who are new to computers and need help with what to many would seem the most basic things.

A little tolerance for those with less technical ability would help. Be fair folks - this appears to be a genuine offer from loopylaura for such people.

Thats true enough. but how much help would be needed for someone to install a web cam? All you can really tell someone is "insert the disc and follow on screen instructions (which normally just consists of pressing next a few times)."

it's oddly specific, what if it's something else that you can't install.

Um mm, I have the benefit of being able to see peoples email domains, and I can see that there is maybe a good reason for it.

I wish the OP was contributing TBH, it would make all this supposition a bit redundant. :)

Perhaps people have leaned new skills themselves that they want to pass on? I don't recall seeing any request for recompense from the OP.

No your right it's not rocket science and the installation manuals are usually easy to follow

Then again, after thinking about it. it may not always be straight forward.

People my have difficukties if they are trying to install their cam onto a new computer and have perhaps lost the installation disk and/or manual. They would need help loacting the correct drivers to download, which may not be the easiest of thing for beginners.

Doesn't matter how easy or hard installing a webcam is, if you're struggling you just come here and ask. I doubt anyone will be sat at home wondering how to install a webcam then come here and search for a post from someone who may or may not actually know how to install them.

Judging from the lack of response and poor formatting\grammar in the original post I think I'd take my chances with tech support.

Out of curiosity, and because there has been no response from loopylaura on this thread, I did a search of her name, and found her 7 posts, all of which are typed in textspeak (and most of us know how much that isn't accepted on SF:wink: ), and one in the For Sale section, in which she was trying to sell a gold plated watch because she was stuck in the centre of town with no bus fare, and that she was only 15 and didn't want to be out after dark.

Therefore, it appears that either loopylaura genuinely thought she was being helpful in this thread, or she was posting just for the sake of it in order to get her posting quota up, so that she could pm.....the latter seems feasible considering she hasn't posted on SF for two days, although I should have thought that e-mail and messenger would have been better media:loopy:

Well, that explains the loopy bit then!

I'm just intrigued now as to what's going on. Are we part of some web-based Twilight Zone episode?
