View Full Version : Kowloon to be re-created in Sheffield nick2 21-09-2005, 15:44 assuming they get planning permission...... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/4264878.stm cgksheff 21-09-2005, 15:49 It looks wonderful! http://www.adventurocity.com/images/cn/cnhkg007.php http://www.watermarkpublications.com/001/html/kow.jpg :D nick2 21-09-2005, 15:50 Very Park Hill-esque. carcrash 21-09-2005, 16:24 I think it looks dreadful. Park hill, Hyde Park, Kelvin Ect ethan_c 21-09-2005, 16:30 I think its pretty cool - nice one! Greybeard 21-09-2005, 18:17 Stack 'em high sell 'em cheap, - think of all that lovely council tax ;) LL200 21-09-2005, 18:40 a quote from designers from the BBC article: "densely-packed buildings of a constant height with a clear edge" sounds awesome  AndrewC 22-09-2005, 14:36 Oh please, this will look nothing like the pictures cgksheff has posted and you must be very stupid to think it would. Its the concept of a citadel with high density constant height buildings finished with high quality materials that West BAr is trying to recreate - not slums. nick2 22-09-2005, 14:50 Those Kowloon buildings in the pictures arn't a constant height, they're all different height, unless it's an optical illusion caused by the washing drying on the balconies. A.B.Yaffle 22-09-2005, 15:02 I think those pictures look awful... even worse than Park Hill and Kelvin. Hopefully what they are proposing will be better than those pictures! cgksheff 22-09-2005, 15:04 I posted those pictures (tongue in cheek) to show how pointless the BBC quotes are. The Walled City of Kowloon did develop into the most densely populated part of a city in the world with a lot of slum accommodation. This what these pictures illustrate and if anyone reads the text accompanying the first picture they will see that the area was demolished in 1993, cleared and replaced with a park. I also do not think that this is what the architects are thinking of, but then they should be a lot clearer in what they say! nick2 22-09-2005, 15:08 Originally posted by cgksheff I also do not think that this is what the architects are thinking of, but then they should be a lot clearer in what they say! I agree, but they were hardly going to say "based on an over populated slum that was demolished" |
