goldenfleece 22-09-2005, 09:59 AM Be GREAT to have live bands on West STreet again....been quite a while since we had a regular live music pub, ie old Hallamshire.
What is your opening night date and what confirmed bands have you got so far?
ArtAngel 22-09-2005, 10:44 AM This is great news!
My band would be keen to play (hint)

That's right, we're a metal band called Rise To Addiction
k_didactic 22-09-2005, 03:24 PM Hello, hello.
Can I send you a demo of my band?
It's best to get in touch with us by emailing us at

Thank you.
JarvisCocker 28-09-2005, 02:29 PM This sounds great - we need more music venues. I will fully support this.
ed9morelies 30-09-2005, 11:35 AM Yay. More live music. Bring it on.
Nine More Lies would happily play your opening night or whenever!
Or is it already open?
We play dark emotional rock stuff.

sknne 30-09-2005, 01:11 PM Hi,
when will be opening??
bluesky2008 02-10-2005, 03:13 PM it is really a good news
hooley17 03-10-2005, 05:53 PM I'd say it's opening this w/e 08 Oct judging by the amount of work currently going on ! I work right opposite.
muddycoffee 03-10-2005, 06:02 PM I think this is excellent news. One of my bands and loads of others use some practice studios just at the back, It couldn't be more convenient, especially as the Grapes seems to be run by a clique and they keep letting their mates play to empty rooms, rather than letting the rest of us play like we used to do a few years ago to good crowds of mates.
They must be loosing a fortune.
Whats sort of bands are they going for- is it pub covers bands (of the sort that play Van Morrison & Rolling Stones covers) or the sort of bands that would normally play the Grapes etc??
BTW can you advertise for "Waitresses" (ie not waiters & waitresses) these days??

Aha, I have just realised why we can't play at the grapes. Not because we are a covers band or sound like the rolling stones - no it's because we are over 25 years of age.!
( actually we are over 25, 30 and 35 ! )
Oh sorry.. I am actually in a band with a guy in his 20s. I'll take him next week to see if we can play. :loopy:
farahday 05-10-2005, 09:38 PM oritey!
cool sheffields needed a new venue for aaaages!
we'll be recording an EP soon..... but do we need one in order to get gigs.... were a bunch of 18 year olds n play post-hardcore... not a scene band.. wow......
would be cool if you could post a reply.
cheers paul. xx
Preacher Man 06-10-2005, 01:51 PM lol, im another touting a band. My mates are realsing an ep, hmv and fop have said they will stock it. but there always on the lookout for gigs. their a UK hip hop group, with 3 mc's and 2 dj's/scratchers. If you are interested email jon@yellowarch.com
St_Patrick 06-10-2005, 04:18 PM Not wanting to pi$$ on anyone's bonfires, but from the look of the place I think they are going for the kind of 'middle of tut road' bands - the ones that attract the 25-35yo market.
Thought there was talk of 'comedy club' nights and food with a 'deep south American' flavour.... sure I read all this in the latest/recent CAMRA pamphlet ??
St_Patrick 07-10-2005, 04:03 PM Unofficially (from one of the builders) it opens Fri 14 Oct... possibly

Eh?
Most of us over 35 year old musicians play much more interesting music than "middle of the road"

Sounds like great stuff, 3 Motorcycles and two DJs who are scratching their heros.
A cross between a saxon gig and the wall of death show, fantastic. Do you play "denim and leather" ?
Preacher Man 07-10-2005, 05:41 PM not really, the motorbikes tear up the dance floor and rev their engines in tune to the beat.
there is a wicked game at the end of the night which resembles the madrid bull running

Muddycoffee, maybe you should edit your posts instead of double posting all the time.
Unless you think your more important than everyone else and require more real estate on this forum.
Just a suggustion. :)
alternageek 16-10-2005, 03:59 PM any idea what kind of music is desired to be shown there?
and to those who said it looked like it should be aimed at 25-35 year olds, there was a place i used to go to see live music that looks a lot like the set up of west street live, and tehy let everyone play there from some ****ty wanna be punk band to smaller mainstream acts (saw reel big fish there a few times). plus a lot of 80's bands when they were touring again like psychdelic furs (whose name i just butchered). so who knows.. but hopefully its a decent place to listen to up and coming live music is that really matters to me.

I'm sorry, I usually do that I must have been in a rush. I certainly don't think I am important.

Maybe you are remembering the Hallamshire or the Limit if you are talking about west street. Both venues did that kind of thing and are now lost forever.

nahg this place was in NY, long island actually.
i think it just shut it doors (around the same time CBGB's did as well). place was called the downtown (http://www.thedowntown.com/site/default.htm).
and thats a real shame, cause yeah... no one seems to bring anyone decent into town unless its at the octagon.
Nathen 19-10-2005, 12:59 PM Finally, someone got the dump that was "the 80's bar" off west street. Make sure you give upstairs a good clean though, Previous owner = crackwhore.
Cavellsuk 01-11-2005, 04:49 PM ok ok guys sorry i have been away for a while but getting a bar open in the city can be a pain in the ass , but we are open and running, any question (about the bar not maths or english ones please).
please email cavellsuk@yahoo.com
i will try and answer any question on here as well
