We have three pc's connected to a wireless router. For some reason we have recently started losing our internet connection on all pc's. If we wait for a while or reboot the connection comes back but this is getting more frequent and starting to get on our nerves :(

I've been on to AOL and once again went through everything possible with them to no avail.
I've run full diagnostics tests on the router and all checks out there.

The wireless icon in my sys tray shows being connected at 54.0Mbps but can occasionally drop to as low as 24.0Mbps.
However, the loss of connection 'seems' to be when the connection is showing at 54.0Mbps

AOHell want me to reinstall the router drivers but that is a real pain in the ass and i can't see how that would effect all three systems :?

Can anyone advise me as to what to try next to solve the problem?

Router drivers, what are they then, and what router are we on about here?

Is it just the internet that drops out (does local networking still function)?

I think they were on about the drivers installed on the computers but the chances of all three sets of drivers becoming corrupted at the same time is somewhat high IMO

If by local networking, you mean between the three computers then i wouldn't be able to answer. It's only once in a blue moon that a computer will connect to another :?

[EDIT] It's a BT Voyager 2100 wireless router.

I'd agree with you on the driver front, it's generally just what it says on the screen in front of the muppet in tech support so it gets mentioned.

Not really sure whether the problem is with the wireless connection or the internet connection at this point so I don't know where to go now.....

Can anyone advise me as to what to try next to solve the problem? I recently bought a BT Voyager 2100 router modem together with a 1040 wireless adapter. The router modem worked fine when I was running off the ethernet cable, but when I fitted the adapter, the signal kept dropping off.

Last night, out of frustration, I rang the helpline (on the gumph that came with the router, it was a 50p a minute thing, but when I got through, I was given their new number which is 8p per minute), and they advised me (and told me how) to change the channel on my router, and now everything seems to be fine....and the connection speed seems a lot better than it was before as well.

EDIT: If anyone's interested, the new helpline number for BT Voyager is 0870 243 3204!

Thanks for the number Ann_x
I've tried changing the channel but it stays the same. If i choose channel 10 my laptop loses connection completely :suspect:

OK

for what it's worth here's my thoughts on the matter...

1) as stated earlier try and upgrade the firmware of your router

2) definatley change the channel...it should work on your laptop on a different channel other than 11 (I take it you're using xp or some windows OS) So if you're having problems, just setup the wireless connection again on your PC

3) Are you using any kind of filesharing software especially Torrents! I've noticed that more and more ISPs are not tollerating these protocls anymore. On blueyonder, which used to work fine, it will derop the connection after running a torrent program.

Hope that helps
