Thirty Sheffield teenagers will be performing classics from the 80s in their production of Footloose at the Montgomery Theatre.
Based on the 1998 Broadway Tony-Award-nominated musical rendition of the iconic 1984 film that launched the careers of Kevin Bacon, Sarah Jessica Parker and John Lithgow, Footloose is now a hugely popular stage musical featuring the well known anthems "Holding Out For A Hero", "Let's Hear It For The Boys" and of course "Footloose".
It follows the story of a dance-loving teenage boy, Ren, who moves with his mother from Chicago to the small town of Bomont. Ren discovers that dancing is prohibited, and we follow him and his friends in his attempts to turn things around. Footloose is just perfect for the young, fresh cast, from Easy Street Theatre Company, who are full of life and who love singing and dancing. They wanted to put on this production so much that they recently raised over £1000 doing a 24-hour drama-thon to help pay for their costumes.
Easy Street is a theatre company aimed at 11 - 21 year olds in Sheffield who want to get involved with drama, dance, and musical theatre. They meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings and are based in a studio in the Lion Works building at Kelham Island.
So if you can't wait til the Hollywood remake comes out in 2011, get your stonewashed jeans on and come to see it on stage at the Montgomery Theatre.
