Hi. Seeing as this site has come up trumps on 'stuff' previously, I thought I'd seek people's thoughts on New York and:
best time to go (November or February/March - weather and financial considerations)
places to stay
places to visit whilst there
places to eat whilst there
etc etc etc.
cheers in advance.
;)
Hi Cardinal, im going in October too, we are going to see Mama Mia on Broadway, thought that would be good, not too expensive and theres loads of stuff to choose from.
I really want to go to Ground Zero to, and before any body starts saying that sick/sad/whatever, i just think if i never get a chance to go again in my lifetime, then i will feel blessed to have been able to pay my repsects for all those who died in the Twin Towers.
Not sure what else planned whilst we are there...so i suppose i might pinch some of the ideas people give you!!!

I live an hour from NY, only been twice though so don't know much about it, the Brits know more about it than people that live here i think.
Best months..... June or Sept.

November is going to be cold.. but I love U.S cities in Autumn/Winter. They do a really good job of getting rid of the snow and dressing everything up with lights. So while it will be colder it could well be prettier.
Go down to Soho for shops and food, on the pricey side, but they have some great and unique shops and restaurants down there.
Empire state as many have said. But also the Statue of Liberty is well worth taking a look at.

I went to New York last year, I really thought I'd hate it so only arranged to stay 3 days, but it was wonderful so we added another few days on at the end of our holiday, we stayed at the Milford Plaza hotel which is literally one minute from Times square, and is also known as "The Lullaby of Broadway".
I thought it would be a bit scary, but security is so good, I never felt threatened at all,The harbour cruise in the evening is totally Gobsmacking, better than I ever dreamed, then all the usual shopping and sightseeing.Have fun it's great.

Hi Cardinal,
I went to New York last year. I would recommend: -
* Our hotel was just off Times Square - location was ideal - would recommend staying near it.
* Go to see a show on Broadway but don't pay theatre box office prices. There is a kiosk in the middle of Times Square with red and white signs (can't remember what it was called sorry) where they sell reduced tickets
* China Town is worth a look - for the market stall and little shops. They'll put a label in a fake Gucci bag if you're in to your designers!
*Take a trip on the Staten Island ferry to go past the Statue of Liberty - I don't think it's cheap to go to Liberty Island and I don't think you can go up the Statue any more
* There are bus trips that visit loads of attractions in the city, it's worth getting a ticket for a couple of days travel and ours included an evening tour - was good going over to Brooklyn to see night views of Manhattan
* Central Park is absolutely huge, but it's worth a walk through some of it to see all of the different people - you can get a neck massage while squirrels run up the trees nearby!
Enjoy your trips Cardinal and pdrnsf!
