View Full Version : Not enough 24 hour shops, etc. about?
darkstardust 15-01-2004, 00:27 OK I will admit that I have had my medication for the night (alcohol - relieves stress, some depression temporarily and also non-sleep problems)
After taking my medication I have become hungry without having the 'right' kind of food in the cupboards and the clocks being WAY past the hour of redemption (12-12:30) and you cannot do anything like drive (if possible paperwork-wise and/or physicaly) to get something from 24 hour Tesco's or Asda. What do you do?
And on that note I am just wondering if anyone has been in this situation (like me) before and would like to shout their battle cry with mine and open more 24 hour shops. So they work with a semi-deficit, so what if it cuts the net proffits by like 1.3% - at least there is more money coming IN... More for the board to apreciate a sense of initiative and such...

That's why I love America. Many places are open 24 hrs a day including breakfast diners. You can get an egg and bacon sandwich at midnight if you want then go to Walmart and do your weekly shopping. No kids, pushchairs or old people around. (sorry folks) My favourite time to shop is late at night. I must admit they re-stock shelves late at night and so you have climb around boxes and over stacks or stuff.
Last time I was in Sheffield I went to Boots in Broomhill and found it had closed at 5.30pm. It re-opened at 9.30am. Tut
neeeeeeeeeek 15-01-2004, 08:44 thats why they are all round!
qazitory 15-01-2004, 16:25 I think there is only Asda and Tescos that are open 24 hours in Sheffield. But if there was more shops open, the buses should run 24 hours....
chalicefc3 15-01-2004, 18:24 plan ahead
if you know that the lash is pending - go to the shops and stock up on munchies for when you get home. you can either buy some ready-made food stuffs or you can buy the ingredients and prepare them in advance for simple cooking on your return.
Failing that - always have the phone number of your local curry house/pizza gig in your phone. When you order the taxi - ring through your order and await its arrival for when you get home.
Hard student times call for magical solutions - God bless not having to do much with my life!!!!
qazitory 15-01-2004, 18:27 God bless Netto and Lidl's!!! Just made for students:)
damo4real 15-01-2004, 23:56 i know where you're coming from if i stop in a hotel or at a friends or something and happen to have had a bit to drink i always have to get something to eat that i wouldnt normally have like a mars bar which i only like when im cold and sleeping at a friends but theres never anywhere open once in barnsley i was at a friends and i fancied a sausage roll for some reason so we knew of a 24 hour tesco 28 miles away (yeah you heard right!) so at 1:30 we set off walking arriving at the tesco for about 8am roughly and then id sobered up and no longer wanted a sausage roll so bought a bottle of coke instead we need more 24 hour shops for sure
darkstardust 16-01-2004, 00:50 After my ISP/BT decided to remove my ADSL for over an hour I will reply...

The only problem is when you are not hungry till like 12:30, when everywhere is closed and you have not the ingredients nor inclination to do much in the way of intensive cooking.
Cooking is OK it's when you have to do X to Y with Z at point 1 of 25...
Look - I'm a bloke, typical bloke in almost all ways. But I can cook a damn good meal! THAT is my speciality from most other blokes(when I am in the mood, not drunk or 'such' with alcohol. :P)
Plus ... I'd prefer not to mention about ... um ... *trying not to go red about my "wishing for a non-intmate relationship which will be kissing and cudling and that is all." as I may be letting the side down.*
Sorry - did I type that in the group? DOH!
Take care all.
Classic Rock 16-01-2004, 08:53 There's the Spar on Division Street, that's 24 hours. The petrol station next to me is open all hours too and it sells basic foods.
Why does a 24 hour shop have a lock on the door?
major decker 16-01-2004, 09:43 there's loads of 24 hour shops in Sheffield...Spar at top of Eccy Road, 2 Jacksons stores, another in Broomhill (can't remember name) ok maybe not loads but there's a start..then theres always the petrol stations....Many nights I can remember when a Ginsters pastie has been a saviour...god bless you Ginsters!!!
Buy a selection of pot noodles and stick 'em in your cupboard.
Forget about them.
Next time you've over done the medication and you're searching the cupboards for munchies you will discover them. Your face will light up! Joy! All you have to do is boil the kettle! Easy!
Yes, I know there crap but when you've over done the medcation do you care? Do you think people eat kebabs when they're sober?
Sorted. Trust me on this. I have experience.

Probably because of sunday trading laws. I'm not sure what is included and what isn't, as supermarkets can only open six hours but a petrol station can open more?:loopy:
darkstardust 17-01-2004, 00:44 Well there are not many in Stannington - 10Pm in the village and Hillsborough?
Both too far to walk (wobble) when had too many. Lol. Driving could be an ikkle difficult...

I take it you were feeling a bit ga-ga when you wrote this:loopy:
As you will recall from my post "Worst Bus Route in Sheffield"
There is a slightly small problem of a bus service running in the day time without the problems of a 24hr bus service:D
