View Full Version : Le Bistro in Wentworth opinions ?
Playpen 20-09-2005, 01:31 PM Hi
Anyone been to the restaurant on Main Street in Wentworth ?
Opinions please - may be going on Saturday.
Cheers
HendryVIII 20-09-2005, 01:55 PM I went at Christmas in 2003 and the food was excellent.
A lot of people I know have been and they gave positive feedback as well.
the_rudeboy 20-09-2005, 02:06 PM Its very good. Excellent food and nice atmosphere.
BrainThrust 20-09-2005, 02:07 PM Shame about the residents of the village and their snobbery, othwrwise a nice place.
Wilf
Playpen 20-09-2005, 03:02 PM Tell us more Wilf, was this an incident at the restaurant ?
beautynbeast 20-09-2005, 03:32 PM bistro is a really nice, go for few drinks in rock first and if its on a saturday night ill be in there, and dont mind showin you im not a snob.
tut tut bt.
libuse 20-09-2005, 11:04 PM I'm afraid I found this place vaguely hysterical. When I asked for espresso the waitress shook her head blankly at me, so I asked what coffee they did have and she informed me it was the type which"drips through paper" I kid you not. Food bland and stupidly huge (and therefore wasted) portion size
Cardinal 20-09-2005, 11:17 PM Only been to 'Le Bistro' the once and the food etc was fine and not bad value either.
Top tip: only have a drink in the Rockingham though, good beer but heard iffy reports about the food.
Playpen 21-09-2005, 09:52 AM Thanks for the responses

Nah, my family (and myself until I went to uni) live in the next village along that is run by the same parish council. They have this snobbery going on about being the more 'posh' village to the point where money to fix our village is being diverted to Wentworth by the council!
This has happened for years:
Before I was born my village was one of the last few roads that was still cobbled streets and no street lamps, making it still feel very much like a community and picturesque. Wentworth's cobbled streets were over used and falling apart (being built slightly earlier). Wentworth was going to have it's pavements re-done in the normal style but the people of Wentworth complained. What happened was they removed the cobbles from my village and gave us council estate concrete, and REPLACED Wentworth's cobbles with ours!
Wentworth parish council somehow managed to say that my village's communal hall was costing too much to maintain, they sold it. Wentworth found the money to keep theirs though...
I wouldn't mind that if we could use Wentworth's hall but when a youth club started int here. ONLY children from Wentworth were allowed to go. The justification for this seemingly being 'those kids from Harley (my village) will smash the place up' WTF? Talk about sweeping assumptions about a village.
Just because the council added a few houses to our village in the 60s instead of keeping it all sandstone brickwork like theirs, we're apparently common and should be penalised.
I just hate the attitude of most Wentworth residents. We used to go up for the pub quiz and win it most weeks, much to their disdain :D

sheffbag 21-09-2005, 02:32 PM Wentworth = place where people go and show off their latest car / clothes / accessory / lover
For a place that is so expensive to live there it really is strange. Little houses on a busy road that cost a fortune.
you walk into one of the pubs there and if you arent a local or dripping with money then you get treated with distain.
One pub is nice in the summer with the field and play area at the back but the other... oh dear (people who have been know which i mean)
On topic though, never been to the resturant so cant pass comment but just backing up Wilf's statement.
and no i dont live in harley but grew up in Rawmarsh just up road

I prefer that other pub tbh, the owners aren't locals and so they're always really friendly to us. It's just the locals in there....

Playpen 25-09-2005, 08:29 PM Well we weren't made unwelcome by any of the locals last night ! Either in the Rock or Le Bistro.
Food there was good, restaurant had a good atmosphere. Felt abosolutely stuffed at the end of it tho', portions were on generous side but would have been nice to have had longer between them.
Pretty good overall.
LouPee 25-09-2005, 08:52 PM I also live in harley, I am now intrigued who you are BrainThrust. Do you live near the factory.
And by the way, the owner of the Bistro lives in Harley and drives a rather large Lexus 4x4 and has a hot bath in her back garden. So if you wanna make her even richer carry on going to the Bistro.
ihall 06-10-2005, 03:44 PM I used to work there!!! Very nice food if the chef hasn't changed.
Once broke 5 bottles of champagne though.....very embarrasing moment!!!
ANVIL 07-10-2005, 02:39 PM I went very recently and though the standard was pretty good. I wouldn't recommend the vegetarian option however unless you want something to clog up your arteries. Overall i'd say it's worth a try.
beth29 05-11-2005, 03:06 PM Ooh. I used to live in Harley. nothing at all wrong with Harley, Wentworth or Le Bistro. v. good value for money.!!!!!
BasilRathbon 11-02-2008, 11:43 AM Anyone been to Wentworth Bistro in more recent times? Lady Rathbon and I are thinking of paying a visit but despite only living a mile down the road, we've never been to the place.
shells2909 11-04-2008, 01:32 PM We went last night and the food was AMAZING!!! There was about 20 of us and the service was spot on. Food came out without too much of a wait and was gorgeous, cant recommend it enough. We had 4 courses for 16.50, apparently it's a special price mon - thurs. Just wondered if anyone else had been and what they thought?
sTaGeWaLkEr 11-04-2008, 01:40 PM I've eaten there a number of times and always had a good experience.
I like it. It's quirky, and it's location is good.
BasilRathbon 11-04-2008, 02:59 PM What sort of food does it serve and what's quirky about it?
I asked on a similar thread a couple of months back (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=3126329) and I'm still waiting for someone to reply!

I just like it - I can't really explain why. The fact that it's in a nice spot helps too. My family was brought up on the Wentworth estate so Wentworth is a nice place for me to visit.
Anyway, the Tuesday to Thursday menu is £16-50 while Friday and Saturday's menu is priced at £26-50.
They're both TDH menu's with a selection of both English and French dishes.
I can't remember what's on the mid-week menu, but from memory, the weekend menu listed things like Duck breast with black cherry sauce, Rabbit and chicken pie, Calf's liver, and Monkfish.
Give it a go - you might like it.
Northener 07-05-2008, 01:39 PM Went there last week and to be honest if you like bulk and not quality then it's the place to go. It appears to have been stuck in a time warp back in the 80's. The decor is tacky, gingham plastic table cloths and wierd looking statues all over the place. All the vegetables had no flavour whatsoever. I shall not be returning and neither will the other 3 I dined with.
