All you animal lovers out there!

I haven't got a clue where to start but would really like to be able to raise money for the RSPCA.

I thought perhaps we could all do something either together, or separately... but I don't know what.

Anyone who wants to help or who simply has ideas please post them here!

It'd be nice to be able to incorporate our animals into this in some way... so let's have your ideas!

Why do you particularly want to raise funds for RSPCA and not other animal welfare places like PDSA. ? The PDSA do much more work for needy people who sometimes may not be able to afford treatment for their pets. The RSPCA on the other hand are very difficult to get help from

Are you wanting to specifically raise money for the Sheffield RSPCA branch or the RSPCA in general?

I've been looking at Sheffield's RSPCA website (I've been looking at cats for adoption :) ) and as you may or may not be aware they are having to move their centre due to the building of the new ring road. They need to raise a lot of money for their new premises. There's some contacts on their website here (www.rspcasheffield.homeip.net), then click on "Help us" to get details of people to contact if you want to help with raising money.

Good luck

Neat idea, Lotti.

I'm a Trustee for an animal charity here in Sheffield, but I won't plug it here. ;)

The one thing I would say, though, is that if you do decide to go with the RSPCA definitely do the work for the local branch - national can look after itself. :)

The RSPCA are there to help animals, not you.

I hate 'my charity is better than your charity debates'. If people want to help one charity rather than another then it is their choice.

well the pdsa treat animals from people who are on benefits. the majority of people who use this service are ok but there are the bad apples who use and abuse it, i have known people who work get thier famly to get there pets seen to and its not on and a few of the benefits people screw the system for what they can get so i would opt for supporting the rspca..

if you are going to raise funds for them then i would suggest it goes to the local branch as they do not get help from the national fund, they are toatally self funded...

good luck and if you need help let me know but i cant think of any ideas , sorry :(

Fortunately I don't need either of them or any other charitable animal organisation to help with my pets healthcare

I have had a couple of instances where I have phoned the RSPCA and been told to phone the police and been told it's not their problem !

I was only making a generalisation on other worthy charities, these could obviously include many , of which all do a good job.

Don't you find this happens with a lot of things , you always get a few bad apples , I agree with you this kind of thing isn't " on" but you cannot tar everybody with the same brush

The PDSA is my favourite charity because it is really a 'people' charity. It treats the animals that may be the only real friend a person has in this world.

If anybody knows of a person who is abusing their funds, perhaps a fraud investigation is in order

Fab idea Lottie!
After reading the other week's Star (the one with the RSPCA appeal on the front) I was thinking exactly the same thing, so I contacted Kate at sheffield RSPCA and I'm gonna meet up with her soon to discuss what we can do. I'll keep you posted!

Also, has anyone heard of PALS?
I saw a collection box in Hillsborough Morrisons with some sob stories of abused dogs (which made me burst into tears right there in Morrisons - very embarrasing!) they're based in Conisbrough & I thought they might be worth contacting too.
The number is 01709 860818 if anyone's interested.

Yes & the reason they can do this is by covering local vets out of hours and charging their patients a FORTUNE !!!
