View Full Version : Land of the Dead. Out Friday
youwhatref 19-09-2005, 18:08 I know it's not even started yet but cannot wait!! (anyone else?)
The original Night of the Living Dead & Dawn of the Dead were great films, personally i didn't enjoy Day of the Dead so will look forward to see if time and technology will help.
I understand that the zombies have a little more yto them which is great as Zombie films since the originals i.e DOTD remake (V Good) and 28 days later) have had the Zombies a hell of a lot smarter!
SupraSteve 19-09-2005, 18:12 yeah man I LOVE zombie films  ... I'm worried tho... this one is only a 15!! :(
I watched night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, then day of the dead back to back then woke up in a cold sweat once... ace!! :D
Got it :)
Dont Like it :(
It aint good!
But what you expect for a 15?
Ghosthunter 20-09-2005, 11:21 I thought it was a good film!
Not as gory as the original "dead" films.....
a whole lot better than the terrible remake of D(y)awn of the Dead.
The best has got to be Day of the Dead.......very nice.
Why are they no really scary horror films anymore!
ianbrownfan 20-09-2005, 13:22 Yeah should be good! I always laugh at the Night of The Living Dead where that woman is panicking and shouting and the black guy just punches her in the face. Hilarious.

There have been many big changes at the BBFC since I remember having an interesting chat with James Ferman, some ten years ago (although I was a young idiot who kept asking him to talk about releasing 'I spit on your grave').
Basically, they are now very, very liberal when it comes to Fantasy violence for big films (rightly or wrongly?). The film is just as violent as Night, Dawn and Dead and up to 5 or 7 years ago would have been given an 18 cert straight away. At the moment a film like this would have do something amazing to be given an 18 cert.
The BBFC generally reserves the 18 cert for more realistic portrayals of violence ('wolf creak' & 'history of violence' come to mind). It's amazing to think that 20ish years after the video nasty debate, a film like Evil Dead (amazingly & wrongly described as 'nastiest of the nasties') would probably just sneak a 15 if released now with the big name Rami directing.
'Land of the Dead' is very good by the way (saw it at frightfreast along with the rest of the 'trilogy') But then again I am a Romero 'nut'. He's been treated very badly by the studios and has struggled for ten years to make this film (they cut the budget by near half just before shooting)
'Big Daddy' is a classic character in keeping with the series.

Nah,sorry its got to be the original Dawn of the dead:clap: Sure day of the dead was gorier, but dawn is a clever take on cunsumerism and really works on so many more levels.
As for they dont make scary horror films anymore = C.G.I:(

Very true. If you know about 'Screaming Mad George' or 'Tom Savini', then you'll know how gore effects can be done far better without C.G.I
Although its important to understand gore and effects do not fully a horror film make. 'The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari' gets me everytime from atmosphere alone.

I wondered why so many films are now 15...thanks for that? Didn't think I spit on your grave was anything spectacular! Then again Last House on the left wasn't that good. I *think* the main reason it got banned because they made a girl pee herself!
Going to watch this film on friday, cant beat a bit of zombie! Zombie Flesh Eaters is a scream!
First zombie film i saw i think was called "Return of the Living dead" Quite young at the time and scared me ***** less!!
youwhatref 21-09-2005, 15:04 I'm off on Friday too, cant wait.
The info re the BBFC was jsut as expected and i have no fears over the film being given only 15 certificate.
I'll give Day of the Dead another chance but would never class it better than the original Dawn of the Dead.
Nothing better than a good survival horror...
Ghosthunter 21-09-2005, 18:57 When you watch Land of the Dead, keep and eye out for Tom Savini making a cameo as a zombie!
Tom Savini! He is the man!! :)
Saw him in From Dusk Till Dawn- the guy is quality.
I still like my oldie horrors- like the Hills have Eyes, stuff like that.
Oldies are still the best for me.
While we are on the subject of oldie horrors...
Just found The Omen on BBC3 right now---
Classic oldschool horror and scary as ****.
