Hi People,

I have just bought a 3-bed house with my G/F which needs central heating installing in.

I've been quoted £3,400 for a full system, plus £495 to plum the bathroom suite. I can live with the bathroom, but I was wondering if anybody thought the central heating quote was a little too high.

I am aware of the new laws as to what boilers are installed (condensing combi boiler as opposed to a standard combi). I think we were quoted for a Worcester Bosch (forgive the spelling if it is wrong).

Like most, we're looking to save a little but I don't want to cut corners with something like central heating.

Cheers.

I'd be careful DapperDan if you're getting a Worcester Bosch as my mum and dad got one a couple of years ago after being advised that they were worth the extra money they cost and theres been countless things that have gone wrong. Thank God they have that insurance with British Gas otherwise it would have cost hundreds.

I think you can get money from the government for installing certain energy efficient combi-boilers.

I would recommend British gas insurance/cover too, they will come out and fix anything, pipes/radiators/boiler which could save you hundreds of pounds if you have a disaster.

Our combi boiler is a Worcester Bosch one (about 6 years old I think) and we've not had any problems with it yet (fingers crossed!)
Although just in case, we've got heating/plumbing insurance with Failsafe Heating (Mosborough). It's cheaper than British Gas and you get the same cover.

Make sure that you get a 100,000 BTU boiler otherwise they just aint powerfull enough to satisfy the needs of a family. I've found that pretty much any modern make is fine (the Worcester bosch being the Rolls Royce of boilers, just twice the price)

Cool.

Thanks for the advice people. Need to get a few more quotes though.

If anybody knows of a Corgi registered plummer with a good rep, I'm willing to give him / her a call for a look around the house and a quote.

D.
