Does anyone know what happened on Greg house road on Friday night?? I was traveling home around 11.30pm in a taxi when we drove down Greg House a police man approached us with a gun and told us we had to go back because the raod was closed. Must have been approx 5 police cars there.

Does any one know what happened

Well, some time after the Big Bang (providence unknown) the accretion disc around our sun began to clump together, and the planets formed. Then, over a period of a few hundred million years, life evolved, crawled out of the slime and started watching big brother.

No, what happened before that?

there is no before. At least not in terms that we, as temporally anchored beings, can understand. Time begins at the big bang, as does space.

Thanks for editing the title mods. Makes a bit more sense now.

So what was "there" before nothing?

Protonothing.

But of course I can't post that without adding a few more pointless words.

I can let you have a copy of my husband's doctoral thesis if you like- it runs to 400 pages and it's all about the 'if time began with the Big Bang, what was there before time?' question.

I have two degrees, and it lost me about page 4.

the speed of light is known, but, what is the speed of dark???

maybe you'd be kind enough to post the conclusion?

If I had to guess - it would go something like this:

If we were not bound, temporally, by the second law of thermodynamics, or if the second law was somehow separable from time or simply didn't exist - well neither would the big bang, but anyway, if we were somewhow immune from it, then the universe would look very different, (and so would we but anyway) and we would be able to (having evolved into sentient beings that could) traverse time and the bifurcating possibilities of our own universe and outside, and then we could investigate what came 'before' our big bang, if there was one. We may find that it is a steady state oscillator of some kind.

We might be able to find our universe looking something like a very deep multidimensional sphere or hyperdocdecahedron (if there was, for example, a multidimensional 'foam' of 'universes' (quotes around 'universe' at this point because our universe just got bigger)).

A bit like god in fact. Good on general principle (creating space for an universe or a big foamy mound of them and so on), bit hazy on the details (eberything that happens afterwards).

Some maths tells us of a further seven dimensions in addition to our normal four. These are not necessarily notional dimensions for solving problems, but actual physical dimensions (although conveniently intangible).

Grasping at those dimensions may take us somewhere, but fundamentally as biological agents of entropy delay - we are stuck in time. The problem of what happens outside of time is still a problem and totally opaque.

It seems our current wetware is not up to the task of perceiving this sort of paradigm. Yet.

I have optimism that the mind is going places, even if the brain is not.

But none of these shenanigans will free us from the 'catastrophe' of infinite regress IMO. As the old woman said "it's turtles all the way".

Mods Maybe change the title back to "what happened"?

I understand medic-speak and biochemist-speak, but me and hubby have always had a pact about these things. He won't baffle me with cosmology and I won't make him learn anything about Michaelis-Menten plots.

When I asked him his conclusions it took 20 minutes of arm waving before I understood that I didn't understand it at all- sorry!

Mod: This is probably the weirdest occasion that i have had to ask folk to get back on topic...

... but go on - give it a try.

Perhaps the first post needs pruning off this thread, as it's the only one that doesn't fit with the rest :hihi:

We were on topic until a mod changed the title from "Does any one know what happened" to the current one.

However, to answer the question as it now stands, there was a murder. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/4259190.stm

The previous thread about this was closed so please do not discuss the details of the case or post anything that could cause legal problems.

Andy you're starting to sound like a Mod - is there something you should be telling us ... ?

And, back on topic, I think you can find something out about it on the SYPolice web site under appeals.

No, but 2 threads on this topic have already been closed, and I'd hate this one to go the same way :p

Just suprised really that the moderators havent pulled this thread for going so far off, they did for the one involving Hartley brook body.

The word on the street about this incident is a long story about the parking problems around the adjacent primary school, and a householder who was annoyed at finding his driveway blocked by a parent who wanted to pick up their child from the doorway of the school. probably in a 4x4. Exchange of words and threats then later that evening a drive by shooting occured problem was it hit the wrong house.

Dont know if thats all of it, just what i got from someone who heard somene, but it does sound possible.(sadly)

If that's true, it's very sad that somthing as trivial as a parking dispute can ruin so many lives.

What's wrong with the world?
