View Full Version : How likely is it that i'd find a wedding dress for under 600pounds lilmisslovet 29-06-2010, 22:20 is this wishful thinking? carly83 29-06-2010, 22:56 no not at all, you can even order them online direct from thailand for under £100 delivered, £600 will give you a fair choice is many bridal shops as well JFKvsNixon 29-06-2010, 23:00 is this wishful thinking? My wife got one that was reduced by around £400 to around £600 because it was worn once in a fashion show. medusa 29-06-2010, 23:09 Or you could do what my sister did and opt for a lovely dress which wasn't specifically a 'wedding dress' and buy that for a couple of hundred quid. Hers was from Monsoon and was really lovely. lilmisslovet 29-06-2010, 23:22 no not at all, you can even order them online direct from thailand for under £100 delivered, £600 will give you a fair choice is many bridal shops as well sorry i dont mean to sound rude at all, but this isnt asarcky comment is it, as whenever thai or chinese wedding dresses are mentioned it is never good news.... ive heard many saying tey struggle to find a shop in sheffield that sells many under 1000 and i can barely afford 600 carly83 29-06-2010, 23:53 sorry i dont mean to sound rude at all, but this isnt asarcky comment is it, as whenever thai or chinese wedding dresses are mentioned it is never good news.... ive heard many saying tey struggle to find a shop in sheffield that sells many under 1000 and i can barely afford 600 i bought mine from thailand (was the town next to where my step mum comes from) anyway i paid £70 for it plus £27 shipping every bead and crystal was hand sewn, it only cost me a further £60 to have a tailer take it in at the waist out at the bust and up at the hem. although there is of course some that sell shoddy made dresses there are many that sell perfect ones (infact alot of bridal stores are supplied from thailand now) the place i bought mine from are not online but look at this for a example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STRAPLESS-BEADED-WEDDING-DRESS-CORSET-SIZE-16-18-20-22-/310204611114?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Wedding_Dresses&hash=item4839a2ba2a 5614 happy customers out of 5614 wedding dresses sold lilmisslovet 30-06-2010, 07:11 apologies, you just hear lots of stories. Hers was from Monsoon and was really lovely. Monsoon have some absolutely beautiful dresses, think they do a bridal range too. carly83 30-06-2010, 08:29 apologies, you just hear lots of stories. That dress looks lovely, im thinking of getting mine off ebay if the shops dont have what i want ive seen a dress maker in liverpool and they seem to have som gorgeous dresses. no prob hun, hope you find one you like, and of course have a great wedding. ps monsoon do have a bridal range as do debenhams and next KATIEB_23 30-06-2010, 10:49 If you look at my old thread on here you'll see that even though I had a bad experience (but got all my money back) that is far outweighed by many many people who have been very happy buying copies from China off Ebay. We went to a wedding this weekend and the bride looked absolutely stunning in a Monsoon bridal gown (£180 I think) You could even buy one from Monsoon then pay someone to customise it or wear a really fabulous OTT veil to make it more individual? Liia 30-06-2010, 10:52 My dress was from dessy: www.dessy.com There is a shop in Kiverton that has them, you can find it on the store locator on the Dessy website. Mine was a bridemaid dress and cost a lot less than £600 (less than £200 infact!). Have a look at the bridesmaid dresses, a lot of them come in ivory/white and work a treat. Also a lot of their wedding dresses are inexpensive. Hope you find something. Sambilena 30-06-2010, 10:58 hi, not sure if you've tried them already but there is a shop in chesterfield town centre called precious bridal rooms (they've just moved somewhere near the next store down there) but thats where i got my dress from, they were really friendly and helpful too. I didnt actually buy mine from the shop though...i went to the Sitwell Arms wedding fayre-each time they have one the shop holds a dress sale, all the dresses are on the racks, and you can try them on whilst your there. You do have to pay in full on the day (cash or credit card). We paid by cheque so had to wait a few days for it to clear before i could get my hands on the dress lol. best to try sitwell when they have a fayre on/i assume other hotels do similar sales with dress suppliers...my dress had been £1400 and i got it for £450 (mine was one of most expensive, they ranged from £60 ish i think). All fittings are then done at the dress shop near the time of your wedding. and the seamstress was excellent too! i was worried about the cost of the dress too, but they really put me at ease and werent pushy in the slightest. Not got a number for them, but if you search google for precious bridal rooms chesterfield, im sure it will come up. sam hellsbell 30-06-2010, 12:52 Hi, I'm starting selling Ex sample wedding dresses, at the moment we are from home but we have a variety of sizes and styles all for £249.... no catch, all lovely dresses with tags and all retailed until recently at £800 (Average) We have some pictures on facebook page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=123251977715520&ref=ts Or please contact me for more details ;);) LNRV 30-06-2010, 14:54 is this wishful thinking? how much are you wanting to spend and what size are you? I am thinking of selling mine. Its a very simple sleek dress, its lovely its a size 8/10, dress, head dress, veil and shoes pink fairy 30-06-2010, 15:28 New York Brides Eckginton has amazing dresses for under £500. I got mine from there and it gorgeous. They lady who runs is brill. lilmisslovet 30-06-2010, 19:24 looking for a size 16, mayb a short one, tunics, princess style and grecian style are out of the question feline01 30-06-2010, 20:52 Pink Fairy is right. I got my Maggie Sottero dress from New York Brides at Eckington for well under £500 and Victoria who own's the shop is lovely. x Flutterbyes 30-06-2010, 22:02 you could always get a seamstress to custom make one for you, might cost less than the £600 too. Jozafeen 30-06-2010, 22:58 you could always get a seamstress to custom make one for you, might cost less than the £600 too. It certainly might! My designs start from around £400 and I'm sure the other local designers and seamstresses recommended regularly in this group are a similar price. There's also the option of buying one from a charity shop and having it customised too (there's a thread somewhere saying which are the best branches to find them) - much better than giving your money to the boss of a chinese sweatshop! :) amzy 04-07-2010, 10:25 Hi I bought my dress from blushes on london road, they have a huge range of dresses and the staff can't do enough to help, they talk to you about the styles of drss you are looking for and which will best suit your body shape and also ask your budget so you don't fall in love with a dress you can't have. I'm sure there prices start at £200. I know someone who got a loverly dress from there for £400! Hope this helps X honeyb35 06-07-2010, 07:54 Mine cost £90 and was brand new from ebay (uk seller!) Loads of places do them for under that price, I know La Bella Brides sell lovely dresses cheaply Moomina 01-08-2010, 17:14 I've just bought my wedding dress from Monsoon - they are all really beautiful, well made and very reasonably priced. Mine was £250 and has lots of intricate beading on it. Meadowhall have the bridal range in stock - once you've found the one you like by trying it on I'd recommend ordering it from the website so you know you'll get one that's brand new and not been tried on lots. Although if you're after something with a big full skirt then Monsoon doesn't really do the meringue style dresses. weddingdaze 05-08-2010, 18:11 Hi, mine was an Amanda Wyatt dress and it cost £599 - so it can be done! It was from here http://www.hoopsadaisy.com/ :) linzi_13 05-08-2010, 21:32 You should definately go to New York Bride in Eckington, I got mine from there for £280 and it was gorgeous... and Victoria who owns it is a star. Think there is a website too so you can have a nosey. Good luck charlie9865 09-08-2010, 08:51 hellsbells has beautiful dresses, she is called helen taylor think she is under hellsbells anyway. The dresses are stunning and under 400 pound think (again) might even be under 300. Said think because I don't want to be wrong and give false information :) Number Six 09-08-2010, 09:38 ive heard many saying tey struggle to find a shop in sheffield that sells many under 1000 and i can barely afford 600 I expect I'll get a lot of flack for this, but the answer is that of course you can get a dress for £600. That's a heck of a lot of money for a dress you will wear once. I think of clothing is a cost per use way - so a £1,000 suit I wore 3 times a week for three years worked out at about £2.35 per wear - which considering it was a jacket and trousers wasn't too bad. A £20 pair of jeans I wore 5 times and then ripped were £4 per wear so were less good value. Obviously for your wedding day you want to dress up - but £600 per wear? For me that would be too much. I know rationality doesn't really enter the equation when it comes to wedding dresses, but still. The question really is can you get a dress that you like for £600, and that is up to you. If you are spending £600 on a dress even though you can 'barely afford' to then I fear you have been sold a 'dream' and will find yourself looking at more expensive dresses when you go shopping. I'm the same when I look at cameras - 'for another hundred quid I can get this feature which objectively I know I will hardly ever use, but subjectively feel I must have.' There are many dresses on eBay that are under £600, and there have been many suggestions on this thread for places locally you can go (and local businesses need your support) Don't worry about the price - just stick to your budget and if you like it, get it - if it's an eBay bargain at £20 it doesn't matter, no-one need know and you can spend the other £580 on a holiday. Whatever dress you wear will look hopelessly dated when you look back at the pictures in 20 years anyway, but your smiling face won't age. BettyBooHoo! 09-08-2010, 09:48 I got mine for £250.00 as it was last season's stock, I just had to pay for my own alterations if needed. It was from the Wedding shop on Arundel Gate, can't remember the name now! Nip in a few stores and enquire about old stock. indiechick 12-08-2010, 20:49 I just got an Alfred Angelo dress for £455.
