Hey Guys,

Does anyone know where I can find details of the Transport Act 2000? I've done a google search, but can only find explanations about how it affects people with a disability.

Any help appreciated!

" 2.55 The Transport Act 2000 provides for a new national minimum standard for local authority concessionary travel schemes. This will ensure that certain groups of disabled people will be entitled to at least half fares. The legislation comes into force on 1 April 2001 in London and from 1 June 2001 in other parts of England."

Thanks Robbie! I'm trying to get a link to the whole act. I assume it covers more than just provision of service for the disabled, although I could be wrong. It has been known! ;)

There's definitely a reference copy of the full Act in the law library at Collegiate Crescent site at SHU, but be prepared for a slog as there's a copy of all legislation and can be rather daunting. It's also for reference only so you'll need a photocopy card.

If you're only interested in a precis of the Act you should be able to get that if you copy and paste this address into your browser

Although there are specifics of the discounts that should be available to people with disabilities using public transport, it should be noted that public transport is specifically exempted from the impact of the Disability Discrimination Act (I've just watched a discussion on the subject and teach aspects of the DDA in education). This means that all of the recent stuff that came into force about providing services for those with disabilities is irrelevant to transport- you can get into the museum/bar/hospital, but only if you can get there!

Hope that this helps.
