1) Whats the deal with Anita - does she just DJ or perform as well?
2) I am not always negative on here "elphaba" - just inquisitive and curious sometimes
3) Has Dempseys got that espresso coffee machine yet ? It would be nice to go in there sometime and not have "alcohol only " options
4) They should heat up their food more - I know of a friend recently who got an almost cold cheess burger in there or least it was by the time they got it
5) I think there should be an older controlling influence on the young male bar staff downstairs there of an early evening who sometimes lark about with each other with inappropriate behaviour - remember straight people go in there also - and stop them JUST having a diet of Kylie and madge on the monitors ALL the time :-O

Just to say there was a wonderful party atmosphere all night at Demps' when i turned up at 9.50 'cos I thought that they will be letting members in for free until 10 as normal.
Unfortunately as it was Pride Day, they were charging from 6pm, but this is understandable considering the sheer volume of crowds that evening, and I already had got a ticket for POPTASTIC!
Still had a wonderful time chatting to all outside, and so glad that Anita Ask-U and the amazing CRYSTAL BALL were in attendance!
Of all the Drag Queens in Sheffield (and outsiders who come here) Crystal is THE most convincingly feminine of them al!!!

I think Dempseys is a very classy joint, I went there on Friday evening all in all very classy - AND I had to queue to get in ;-) Still the music was brilliant, the bar men entertaining banter, the punters happy ...

Stayed downstairs all night which is a first for me.

I was there last night and I must say I had a greta time socialising and dancing on the dancefloor upstairs which had a very great atmosphere and all the tunes were bang up to date - no cheesy Kylie :-) The DJs there do a top job !

I love Dempsey's, in fact I prefer it to Climax. (where I went last night)

So who is going to the OSCAR Wilde play being staged at Dempseys next week - there is a cheap preview night on Monday only 4 quid ...

I love Dempsey's - its always a good laugh and the staff are great.

Just a little reminder.... LINEDANCING lessons start TONIGHT, upstairs at Dempseys, from 7.45pm, until 9pm; taught by Jason, a professional dance instructor, fee per night £3.

BTW, I noticed a rumor by one of the posters on the Mulberry thread that Dempseys will have a major makeover downstairs in January.

Will there be a small lift installed, I wonder, for disabled/goods transport upstairs; it would be a requirement to have full accessibility to the club, with 'equal access to goods and services? Reorganising space for the toilets would be a good idea as well, as there is very little space for loos, but maybe they might get planning permission for a small extension for loos/lift; for example Forum Bar on Division Street built that wacky looking extension across the road beside Devonshire Green, so maybe Dempseys can build out a bit onto Hereford St?:D

I love going to Dempsey's, but the music is really starting to <removed> me off. They play some songs 5 or 6 times a night, I know it might be popular, but for the love of god. That Bad Romance by Lady Gaga and Fight for this Love by Cheryl Cole was both played two or 3 times in the same hour.

The toilets in Dempsey's are getting worse too. There is 6 or 7 people in queing when the downstairs bar closes, then they are hardly cleaned throughout that time and I have often gone in and people are smoking in the toilets.

I am hoping and praying that Affinity does open this weekend, because the prices of everything in Dempsey's are a joke. £3.20 for WKD/VK, not that I drink either, but rip off!! And I'm not that fond of the staff actually.

I do agree the prices are shocking, but they probably know they can charge what they want and people will still come...

And yes the music there has gone downhill a bit!

Dempsey’s currently has a monopoly on the Sheffield gay scene, but hopefully that’s all about to change. If the new Affinity plays its cards right, gets some nights like those in Leeds/Manchester, including some drinks promotions, it could take over Sheffield gay scene.

The staff at Dempsey’s are complete <removed>. The DJ/drag act doesn’t play live from the box; it’s all pre-recorded, or played directly from a MP3 player. And finally, the place stinks!

Dempseys is ok, stop knocking the place, its better than a lot of straight pubs in town.

I went with a friend a few weeks ago.

The smell of the upstairs part of the venue was disgusting. Sweat, dirt and more sweat with a bit of old bleach thrown in for good measure. A dark, dingy, dirty black hole.

The staff weren't particularly pleasant either. Customer service was poor and there was a distinct lack of enthusiasm.

Downstairs I was shouted at by some yob for being posh and was told I wasn't welcome there (because I had a tie on) :loopy:

I would really love to see them putting some serious money into the place; I remember a few years ago they were talking about opening the top floor as an extra dancefloor; lets face it, the premises is quite small, and effectively they're trying to run Sheffield's answer to the Nightingale in Brum, or Queens Court in Leeds, and doing a pretty good job of it, so do give credit where credit's due: they even admirably shook off the stiff competition from Fuel; not an easy task for any business. In spite of the grottiness of the building (I've seen far worse venues in Sheffield city centre and in other towns), they have been trying to improve it; my favourite thing about dempseys though is that they do decent, affordable food, at all hours of day and night.

Maybe if Dempseys really do have a lot of money stashed away somewhere, they could expand into an additional venue? There are plenty of empty pubs/clubs (E.g. the old Matilda?) which an experienced club like that could do a lot with?:love:

Its always been the same, when i first moved to Sheffield yrs ago the gay scene was ok but not great and although it was mostly in the Attercliffe area (old Planet) people from other cities travelled here for nights out.

However the thing with Sheffield as a whole they don’t move with the times and think a successful venue will last for ever without putting any effort in to improve and when they do the improvements is done on the cheep or with little effort.
