Well I went out for a few quiet dirnks tonight, and then I saw poster on the wall saying ........ CABARET AT DEMPSEYS........ and it was, OMG, text everyone, which I did, and no one turned up, but you will be dissapointed you didn`t turn up, as it was a BRILLIANT NIGHT, the cabaret was AWSOME, yes that good, and I hope others who were there post, as it was a amazing night, and the place was jammed packed, and even had owners of Xes there :o :o yes IT WAS THAT GOOD. :thumbsup:

No, she did sing her "Wuthering Heights" song, but she wasn`t the main cabaret.

The main one was someone called "Etienne" and he was on for ages and ages.

Cabaret started about 10.15ish to 10.30 and I left at 12.30 and it was still going on.

Yes it was good, so much for going out for a quiet drink.

Must add also that the Bar Staff put on an excellent additional cabaret session too. For me, there can only ever be one true Goddess of Drag and that has to be Tyranna!

I discovered this thread by accident a few days ago and there are some interesting, if not "controversial", comments. The strange fact about this forum thread is that Colin and Kieron (the owners) weren't aware of it. This has now changed and they have been ploughing through pages and pages that I've printed off for them. Things are changing, but they do take time. I'm a little surprised that no one has ever pointed this thread out to them before but that's just a fact of life. I suppose we all assume that this site is accessed by millions. Hand on heart, I'm glad I found it!

As for entry I think its only 3 quid and you don't need your membership card (although its cheaper if you do). Lost mine years ago and haven't been bothered getting a new one.

Its free before 10pm though, but if you dont have your card they will charge you £1 between 9pm and 10pm, I think.

I spoke to Andy behind the bar about hours and what was on each night and they subsequently updated the web site. Spiderpete also spoke to them and updated his website based on the information.

Same here, We sent a questionaire for the QueerSheffield.com site with a SAE enclosed so they didn't even have to pay to reply. But no respnse yet. You'd have thought they would have been happy to get free publicity. And at the moment its delaying the launch of the site, In fact I'm amazed at how unhelpful the Scene is in providing the information when at the end of the day it benifits everyone. The only people that have bothered to respond are Ruskins, Les Femmes and Fuel, No reply from Dempseys, Homomad, Club Xes, Roebuck or Climax. Such a world apart from the other citys where were launchin aswell, where the venues have bent over backwards to provide the info and be as helpful as possible. Its such a shame on Sheffields part. Especialy when were wanting Sheffield to be our Flagship Site as it will be the first to launch.

When ever I've walked past Dempseys in the day it seems to be full of foul mouthed people shouting and screaming. And I don't mean in a happy way. If that's what it's like in the day I don't ever want to experience it at night. The Moor is fast becoming a s***e area at any hour though.

Yeh we went last night, had a laugh. The stripper tried to get some people to dance around but i just had to hide!

Anyway first time in Dempseys since Fuel opened and i have to say it looked better than i thought upstars, loving those tiled pictures!

Don't know why, but Dempseys seems so much easier to pull and to talk to people when compared to other places.

I have to agree with this, even I can pull and thats saying something, everyone does seem friendlier although you never met them.

I went to Dempseys last night too for the first time in ages, had a great time upstairs, wicked dancefloor, like what they've done with the space.

The stripper was funny, very well hung he was, I felt quite scared to be honest hehe!:thumbsup:

It's the longest running gay club in sheffield and it should be supported. Everyone's there simply to have a good night out, there's no attitude or pretentiousness!

Must say I was shocked to see how busy Xes was, I have never stayed that late for ages, and really have no idea if the place is busy or not. Well it was. Packed even.

What a pity....but when they started charging money to go in there 2 or so years ago, it went a little flat...

Just thought I'd add a few lines to this thread. Lots of issues have been taken on board and Dempseys is improving at great speed. A refurb is underway in the downstairs bar and the "ump" is starting to disappear and the "emp" is reappearing once more. Tonight has been a fantastic night with the doorstaff having to turn people away due to being packed to the seams. At 4am the upstairs main room was still heaving. Thanks for everyone's support.

Very true Meaks, but as I said in my post, all comments have been taken on board by the owners and are now happening. Personally, I hate dirt and I also hate tack and stale smells (how I'd love to chuck in a double entendre' aimed at some hot venues in Sheffield but I'm too nice a guy). In the next few weeks comes a whole new regime and a pride in the place. A quick flick with a duster is no good when the dirt is ground in. The place will be bottomed in the next few weeks and will be maintained to a high standard. With standards also should also come respect from the punters that frequent the place. Some queens are dirty ******** when it comes to respecting a place and the damage they cause to a place is unreal. However, once we have basics in place, we'll also start sorting the trash queens out too. Will be quite humourous won't it ie barring a queen for flushing a bog roll down the loo, ripping the toilet seat off, pissing in the sink, dumping the contents of her "manbag" on the floor etc. You can see where I'm coming from can't you. Manners and respect cost nothing regardless of what a place is like. Heaven knows what some queens' homes are like but there you go

Well i've been going there for 2.5 years with various degrees of regularity and have never noticed any air-con upstairs. Come to that, I've frequently had to go back downstairs because the smoke was so bad it's affected my breathing :gag:

Well I popped in here for a quick one on my way home from the halloween Meet and they have stripped all the walls, and those small minute pics have gone.

Looks like they are gonna paint the walls, wonder what colour, needs to be Pink.

I've actually been in Dublin this weekend, doing drag in a big club in dublin (The George). For a live singing act such as me, a smoke-free atmosphere is definitely good news, which is what I like so much about Irish venues!

Still, in cold, wet countries like Britain and Ireland, it would be best to retain a small 'smoking room' in venues with enough space -like the old 'Spit-and-sawdust' Public Bars in pubs.

Fair comment Stack. I was there when you came in and left. It was bonfire night, albeit Saturday and the 4th November but the place picked up around 11ish. I seem to remember you only stayed for 10 minutes and maybe that is me exaggerating slightly, lol. Mind you, he did have an armful of mags too!

I never realised you were a drag queen Tyranna, just assumed you'd always been a natural megastar goddess since birth! The show is coming together with the final decisions being made this week. The theme seems to be headed towards great showstoppers from the Musicals. Have a chat with Colin when you're next in, he's co-ordinating. I'm just designing the sets and lighting as we speak. As you know, Tyranna, your presence on the stage is always loved by everyone.

Well after having a "quick one" in Lions Lair last night, I decided to have another "quick one" in Dempseys (I am talking drink here).

I thought I had walked into the wrong pub at first, :o , the wooden bar thingy downstairs has gone and now has a black slab thing, exactly the same one as upstairs, very nice too, also all the walls are now painted, and those horrid small pics now gone, and that brown whatever fence thing going towards the toilets has gone, and that makes it look bigger.

Stayed the night, and our 3 tables won the quiz. :thumbsup:

Going abroad for 2 weeks, back early January!

Well I popped in here last night, and everytime I go in, something new happens downstairs.

Although these popped up on Friday, I was too drunk to notice them, and the lovely bar staff made a point that I was absolutely drunk on Friday, lol :o

Anyway they have put up small tv screens round the top of the walls, one where the menu used to be, and one at the end of the bar, so wherever you sit, you can see one, must be about 8 of them, very nice.

Anyway a couple of dates :

New Years Eve - £7 to get in

SMALL TV Screens? I was dumfounded when I popped in there the other week to leave some copies of BOYZ Magazine I'd brought back from London. The new flatscreen TV's (Yes, all 8 of them) are HUGE compared to the old TV's they had before! That's a sure sign of progress, especially since every Gay Bar in Nottingham, Leicester and Manchester has had such wall-to-wall flatscreens for two years!!!

Sorry that I'll miss the cabaret, but I'll be in Ireland until at least January 3rd; I'm doing a cabaret at Cork's main Gay New Year's Eve Party!

The Roebuck is the pub to go to before anything, it's great, although I am biased cause the landlord is my and my girlfriend works there, but is a great gay friendly venue with a fab karaoke night on a Friday. Although it is run by a gay guy it is definitely a straight pub that has become popular with the non scene gay community. Why not give it a try I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I don't know, it just seems realy old fashioned and stereotyped, like the Blue Oyster bar in Police accademy, I just remember the strippers in the back room of The Albert, it was realy tacky.

Some people that will go to see the strippers could be classed as "old school" gay, and not the slim mincing queens that are soooo common these days.

yes you are correct, when i saw the one at Dempseys on a Thursday night, by
accident of course as I didnt know one was one, the "old school gays" were there. :thumbsup:

To be honest, im no fan of strippers at all but have no problem with anyone male or female, bi, gay or straight going to see them.

One thing I cannot be called is homophobic.

Just ask Ian or Colin at Dempseys - I have been a member there for years

Oh you should have gone downstairs as thats where the changes have happened, the upstairs changes happened many many many months ago.

since fuel opened i havnt been to dempsys,was nice to get a place like fuel, clean,the floors were always swimming with alcohol or whatever whenever i went there,soz for butting in :)

Fuel has its plus points but they still need to address that carpet in the right hand bar.

ive only been once when the right hand room has been open in fuel
most of the time when i go its a sunday night
therefore not busy enough for both rooms open
but the night when i went and that room was open, it did lack in comfort as i didnt see anywhere to really sit

Went to Dempseys on Thursday night and they had a fantastic singer/comedien on, she was FAB, laughed so much. Can't remember her name, but please Dempseys get her back again.

Also hello to the very nice French guy I met that night.

But at least you don't have to get your dick out infront of a handfull of strangers to make a living :)

It's the same way with Drag Acts like myself; there's a certain talent you have to have with an audience. I'm getting bookings now around Sheffield and further afield, but when I first started out it was a case of learning a LOT from just watching other established acts!

Went to Dempseys on Saturday night, for a friends birthday. really wish we hadn't gone it spoilt our night. We got there about 11.15pm and we left about 12.30am

The place had a very heavy feel to it, we felt uncomfortable and the place was full of straights, no problem with straights but it must have been 80% straight. Also it was very clear that drugs were being done in the place.

Won't be going back on a Saturday.

I quite like a Saturday, I am off there this Saturday, you will find drugs in any nightclub so not a shock there, and 80% straight :huh: :huh: , were you counting them all, they could be bi-sexual, or even gay, or just curious, were they with a woman ?, anyway I shall count them on Saturday and see how many I can find :thumbsup:

First of all I LIKE Dempseys, but I do have the right to question things from time to time. I am not being a drama queen but the Saturday in question was very strange and yes some of the men were with women and were making it clear they were with women.

I went to Dempseys on Easter Sunday and had a fantastic night, a totally different atmosphere.
