Last week, my bother asked me to place an order at a webpage, he left me the cash and went home, so i tried placing the order, but for some reason paypal wouldnt let send me the cash.

no wories I thought ill email paypal in the morning or give them a call, but just realised i never called them. my bro is expecting his decals in the post on monday, but obviously they wont be there.
I cant tell him i never placed the order cos i already spent the money he had left last week (dont worry i got paid on thursday).
i need an excuse to give him the cash back, or get him to order something else, without telling him i forgot to get it sorted.

im thinking of typing out an email and sending it to my self with a "there was an error processing your order, we have refunded the money to you paypal account" but im crap at formal letters :p. could some of you peeps give me some info on either
A: an excuse
B: advise on formal lettering.

cheers

Is it worth the effort of decieving your brother yosser?
If it went wrong the problems caused could make things worse.
Buy him a pint, yell him what you've told us and i'm sure once the dissapointment of not getting his decals is over you can get back to normal.
You've done nothing wrong, you tried to send it and simply forgot to follow up with a phone call.
we all forget things.

Or just show him this thread... that way you don't have to tell him yourself, and he gets introduced to the wonders of Sheffield Forum...

Everyone wins! :hihi:

Seriously though, I'd just be honest with him - it's not worth all the effort and the worry and lies just to avoid him getting a bit mad at you. Either that or get yourself down to the shops and go buy him whatever it is you forgot to order online.

Email him a link to this thread, that way he's not going to be beside you when he opens it.......so lessening the chances of you getting a slap. :P

you could tell him you placed the order.
when he asks where they are you act all surprised and say you'll check your mail - sure enough when you check there is an email from paypal saying the company hadn't claimed the payment in the required time. Et Voila !!

You give him the cash - he kicks off at the company, they know nothing about it & you my love are in the clear !!!!

Jesus christ I am SO sneaky

I am still at a loss as to how forgetting to place an order warrants deception and immediate thoughts of committing fraud.

Yes, fraud. Writing a letter pretending to be another person or company is fraud and illegal. Is it worth breaking the law just to avoid admitting that PayPal wouldn't accept the payment!?!

Why go to these lengths? Is it impossible to order them today? You could tell him that despatch is late due to not being able to place the order when he asked you the first time as the site was down and paypal wouldn't take the payment. Say you're really sorry but you did you best to help him. Which is something similar to the truth and far less likely to get you into trouble at a later date?

Impersonating a company, even an online one, seems fraught with problems to me ... he's bound to find out sooner or later. He'd only have to look at the full header on the email to see it came from you or one of your mate, or you'll forget sometime and let the cat out of the bag.

Might as well be truthful now and get it over with

I am really gald you were honest with your brother because lies, hiding stuff and deception cause more problems than they resolve.

For example in the past year my siblings and I have been involved in making various essential arrangements. . After a chance meeting it came out that to overcome certain technicalities they'd paid by cheque which had bounced. They were so embarrassed they didnt know what to do. I was dischuffed that they'd gone ahead without letting me know, we havent spoken since and they've ignored all of my emailed attempts to move things forward.

So with honesty and a little forethought all of this unpleasantness could have been very easily avoided as you learned so much more easily than my sibling.
