Wow. The president has a working bladder. I suppose if he just got up and walked out, we'd be hearing about THAT. Even in America, such a thing as manners exists, and one does not just get up and leave a meeting when you feel like it. Walking out of a meeting with other world leaders is the diplomatic equivalent of a b*tchslap. Even though I myself don't like George Bush all that much, it's times like these when I actually feel sorry for the guy, and I sure wouldn't want his job. Not fer nothin'. It seems no matter what he does, or how he does it, it's the wrong thing. :) Sierra owdlad 17-09-2005, 14:25 This has happened before. Before the 2001 inauguration of George Bush, George was invited to a get acquainted tour of the White House. After drinking several glasses of iced tea, he asked Bill Clinton if he could use his personal bathroom. When he entered Clinton's private toilet, he was astonished to see that President Clinton had a solid gold urinal. That afternoon, George told his wife, Laura, about the urinal. "Just think," he said, "when I am president, I could have a gold urinal too. But I wouldn't do something that self-indulgent!" Later when Laura had lunch with Hillary at her tour of the White House, she told Hillary how impressed George had been at his discovery of the fact that, in the President's private bathroom, the President had a gold urinal. That evening, when Bill and Hillary were getting ready for bed, Hillary smiled, and said to Bill.... "I found out who peeed in your Saxophone." Sierra 17-09-2005, 14:48 Very good, owldad. :hihi: I've been to the White House. And it's not all that fancy. Of course, we didn't get to see any private living areas, but it's very old, everything is made of wood, and there are loads of people around. Not to mention, you can't get to within a half mile of the place, except on foot. It was immaculately clean, though. As was Capitol Hill. My God. The granite floors in the house, senate, and capitol rotunda were so clean I could see myself in them. http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/visiting/d_three_sections_with_teasers/capitol_map_page.htm Just to get in for our tour, we had stop, and show our ID to more than one burly marine with a clipboard, walk through at least three metal detectors, leave our purses and any personal items with the guard at the gate, and get patted down. This is in addition to submitting our names and social security numbers a month in advance, getting a security clearance, and having armed secret service men follow us around the ENTIRE time we were there, and finally escort us back to the gate to leave. There were hordes of disappointed foreign tourists who couldn't get in, and were upset. I guess after coming all that way and not being allowed in, I'd be upset, too. I don't think I'd like to live there. Still. It was interesting, and I'd love to do it again someday. :) Sierra owdlad 17-09-2005, 15:05 Thanks for that Sierra. I agree with you that we do tend to have a go at our elected leaders, but like you I certainly wouldn't swap places with them. Fareast 17-09-2005, 16:27 Well , we've had odder behaviour than Bush wanting a tiddle , from our leaders , in the past . Old Kruschov[?] who came after Stalin , [1953-1964] often used to get kettled and insult other world leaders and Diplomats. George Brown , I think , when he was Foreign Minister , under Harold Wilson , was often p*ssed at functions . There was a story that he once addressed someone as the Queen of Somewhere or other and the ,'Someone ' turned out to be a Cardinal or an Archbishop -------not very pleased ! Under any other circumstances he would be funny and well liked (and mostly harmless). Plain Talker 18-09-2005, 13:19 m'kayyyyy... we have found out that "dubya's" bladder is in working order... pity we can't seem to say the same for his brain! (she said, controversially) PT robbie 18-09-2005, 13:38 I'm suprised no one has brought the hadwriting up here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/05/americas_enl_1126799060/img/1.jpg) |
