Hi All

Where do you go for bits and bobs of metal plate/bar etc? At the moment I’m after some flat bar roughly 13x3mm (1/2 x 1/8”), or round bar around 8mm would do. I only need about 2ft of it but would happily get a bit more so I can have some spare. I’m thinking of steel but aluminium would be fine too. From a quick google I found http://www.metals4u.co.uk/ who have a good selection but delivery charges will are excessive (due to the lengths involved, fair enough) for small orders like I’d be doing, therefore local would be better. Are there any nice little workshops who will sell suitable offcuts of their stock? Preferably around S6 or on route between the Parkway and S6.

Many thanks,

Jamp

I could have probably got you both but i'm off work after an accident, it will be at least two weeks before i'm back (but possibly longer due to broken ribs).

The 8mm rod i can deffo get and possibly the 1/2"x1/8" too (not 100% sure though)

If you still have had no luck by the time i get back, i'll see if i can help out..

Cheers, John:)

Thanks gents. I actually got sorted at FJ Brindley & Sons having found them after some further googling http://www.brindley-steel-forging.co.uk
Got just what I was after and they're helpful chaps.

Hope you're back up to speed before too long, John. Thanks for the offer.

Thanks for the tips Tony, I'll know the local options for next time.

Sheet metal work is a highly specialized sector of the manufacturing and construction economy. While other metal workers are generalists, sheet metal workers work with one specific type of metal. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth in this sector will be slow. However, the job outlook is significantly better for those with training in the field. Learning sheet metal work is the first step towards a career in the field
