View Full Version : How do you dress for work ?
How do you have to dress for yoyr job ? do you have a dress code ? I'm mostly slacks and skirts, guess it's call "Buisness Casual"
I know some companys allow staff to wear jeans on Fridays but have to chip in $5 which goes to cancer research , most people seem to go along with that idea too.
spyro2000 16-09-2005, 17:02 At my workplace its suppose to be business casual I suppose and anything within reason on a Friday saturday or Sunday.
smart casual, no jeans and no trainers.
even on a friday.
you can range from people wearing suits to slacks and polo shirt
i think it depends on what you do, if you deal with the public.
i happen to think our dress code is ok, compared to those who have to wear suits and ties all day every day.
limpetboy 16-09-2005, 17:23 Smart trousers and a smart shirt (unless I forget to wash clothes as i did the other day in which case it's jeans an t-shirt).
Safety boots. Anything else goes :)
honeybee 16-09-2005, 17:36 We have to dress smartly. I personally wear a smart skirt and Jacket.
Have the odd charity day where we can wear what we want and pay a contribution.
Suit (but no tie), smart shoes
Gotta look flash given the chance guys. :D
absynthfairy 16-09-2005, 17:41 I wear pretty much what I like - can get away with denim skirts but not jeans... combats are ok.
Some teachers wear suits and stuff but I find my more casual approach makes me more accessible to my pupils - especially the girls. They bitch about the suited female teachers, claiming them to be "up themselves" whereas me and my trendy associates are "cool" for shopping in primark...
I did have a y8 boy ask me why I was wearing a rag round my shoulders once - my poncho was very offended...
School is soooo much more complicated this time round...
banesmabes 16-09-2005, 17:41 This is quite a big issue where I work at the moment. I tend to dress quite smartly (suits most days, otherwise smart trousers and top), but others in the office come in cords and t-shirts. They're meant to be bringing in a stricter dress code, because some people just look downright scruffy when they come in, but it hasn't happened yet.
Friday is meant to be dress down for a pound (the pound goes to the company!). I wore cords last Friday and was told I had to pay a pound. I pointed out that others wear cords during the week as smart dress, but was told that they were dress down for me so I needed to pay! Needless to say I refused.
no dress code so how I dress normally
segasonic 16-09-2005, 19:33 I can wear whatever I like, so it's usually looking like some scruffy skater punk type for me. ;)
I have had a job years ago for which I had to wear a tie, it's like having a noose round your neck all day. I personally disagree with dress codes in the workplace, as well as socially. Just another way to rob you of your identity and imagination.
Shirt, tie and shoes lol and thats just for the co-op
I can wear what the hell I like, which is good, seeing as every morning I tend to sift through my clothes trying to work out what's got the least amount of cat hair and dinner on it before I decide on an outfit.
CherryNicole 16-09-2005, 20:40 I haven't been told that I have a dress code but I tend to wear smart/casual, unless I have meetings, then I tend to wear a suit (alas, it's sooo difficult for me to be taken seriously in a male dominated workplace....haha I love it!)
I've only actually had one job where I had to wear a uniform, and as it turns out, I could only wear the shirt because I didn't even fit into the size 20 trousers! :o I wanted to sue the company for turning me diet mad
Work- what's that?
In many ways being too ill to work is preferable to the horrible 'wear a suit to sit in a car on the motorway at 6am' pile of steaming stuff that my working life comprised.
Could spend my days in my jammies now if I wanted to!
bertie749 16-09-2005, 21:49 I got use to wearing the usual casual/smart thing in my last job and it's so strange that now I , in my new job, I can wear anything I want...... Not got use to the whole jean wearing thing yet as I feel like I'm not in work.:loopy:
scruffilly-i work in a foundry and clean clothes on monday morning look like they've been lived in for a month by the end of the shift:gag:
john.
Pseudonym 17-09-2005, 18:31 Generally, it was hastily, as I was frequently late getting up... ;)
*Twinkle* 17-09-2005, 20:26 I don't have a lot of choice... Gotta wear a uniform  This consists of black trousers, black shoes, a polo shirt (oh so flattering) and a lovely long fetching pinny.... oh yeah! lol!
What annoys me about work dress code in most offices is us men having to wear full suits with ties, especially throughout summer when it gets hot, while women turn up in whatever they like - often as casual as a t-shirt and trousers. Talk about equality.....

Are you self employed yet vidster? - If so, welcome to the club :)
In my Birthday suit, as I'm a Porn star
Oh if only ! No dress code at work so jeans and shirt. Shoes, socks and undies (usually) too :P
Kristian 18-09-2005, 00:54 I wear suits every day apart from Fridays. I love wearing a suit; I look thinner in them, and I feel nice.
As a result I have fifteen business suits. I must get this shopping addiction sorted out... :D

Wear whatever we want as we dont have to meet the customers :)
spiffymonkey 18-09-2005, 08:08 Jeans and a t-shirt, unless I have some specific reason to meet the customers (who are based in the US) in which case I wear smart trousers and a shirt. No tie, though. Can't work 'em.
the_rudeboy 18-09-2005, 17:19 How do you dress for work ?
To the left.........:heyhey:
chocotiger 18-09-2005, 17:42 I work in a store and have to wear unifom. At least I dont have to think what to wear when I wake up.
I often get mistaken for a nurse
Work can be tiresome at times . . which is why I tend to go for the relaxed approach. Sometimes customers want a little extra but I suppose first impressions last eh? Got to look professional at all times.
