View Full Version : Do you believe in Hell? Then listen to this!
Ousetunes 16-09-2005, 13:00 It's long-winded, but have a read of this then listen to what according to the website, is the sound of hell.
WARNING: If you are easily shocked, then do not press on the link.

Then let me know what you think.
Pile of crap. Sorry, but I do not approve of religious types who feel the need to try to frighten others into believing in something. Christians seem to be especially good at it.
We don't seem to have many Christians on this forum do we? Or if we do, then they should be praised because they generally keep their religious viewpoints to themselves.
absynthfairy 16-09-2005, 13:25 We don't seem to have many Christians on this forum do we? Or if we do, then they should be praised because they generally keep their religious viewpoints to themselves.
Probably just as well if that's the response they're gonna meet.
I'm mildly offended and I'm not even religious.
Unfortunately I don't have real player and on work's comp so cant listen to "the sound of hell". Sounds distinctly like a load of crap to me.
Ousetunes 16-09-2005, 13:34 JBee - Why are you jumping the gun?
I'm certainly not putting pressure on anyone to adhere to any particular religion. Far from it. I can't even remember where I got the link from but I found it interesting to say the least.
I've put it on here simply for people's opinions, whether those opinions be a 'pile of crap' or whatever else.
You're welcome to your opinions like the rest of us!
Urban myth I think: http://www.snopes.com/religion/wellhell.htm
This legend is quite popular among Christian groups as it "proves" Hell (and therefore God) exists. Popular endings to the story have it that the scientists ran screaming Hell! from the site, or that since the discovery conversions to Christianity are occurring at an unprecedented rate.
If there is a Hell under Siberia, scientists have yet to discover it. What we have here is an enthralling legend that's been spun off an actual event.
In 1984, an article about an experimental well in Russia's Kola Peninsula appeared in Scientific American. The Kola well reached 12 kilometers into the ground, where scientists encountered rare rock formations, flows of gas and water, and temperatures up to 180°. (That's 180°, folks, not the 2,000° usually reported in any "Scientists Discover Hell!" screed. It was hot, but it wasn't hellishly so.)
Those who did the actual drilling of this very real well did not break through to a hollow centre, and certainly no piteous screams of the damned were heard. That part — all of it — was pure embellishment added after this real event was turned into a legend. (Yes, we know that any number of web sites offer audio clips purporting to be the screams of the damned as recorded in the Well to Hell, and all of them sound like they could be the noise from a typical bar on a busy Friday evening.)
etc etc ...
I am no expert on theology, but I always understood that the message of Christianity was repent for one's sins, accept Christ , and thus avoid the other fellow and his hot place. We'd better get repenting and accept the Lord, and quick about it, if that link is anything to go by. Cue the anorak-wearing, moist-eyed, Evangelical guitarists and Recorder players, and all together now, 'Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, a sunbeam, a sunbeam etc'...
lol, i love that caption under the earth diagram "notice the fire in the earth" - conclusive proof of hell that!

that and "the centre of the Earth contains brimstone, as described in the bible" - more conclusive proof.

Then let me know what you think. i"ll tell you what i know.....hell is an anglo saxon word=meaning 'to bury'as in you planted a potatoe you helled it.most things christian were stolen from the pagans
40summat 16-09-2005, 14:09 It seems to be very typical christian extremism, from those who think the moral values of the biblical parables are not getting through to people.
Looking to science to back up their interpretation of the bible is also pretty normal to a lot of christian groups.
Giving your kids nightmares doesn't sound very christian.
Event Horizon the film, which is all about finding hell somewhere in space, has a part at the start whcih is by far the scariest bit. A guy pulls out a walkman on which he plays a tape of sounds picked up over the radio system from the lost ship. THis is the sound of hell. Its a very good noise and gives a great sense of suspense. Just shows what you can do messing about with sound files these days...

Sorry to offend Absynthfairy. It was actually meant as a possitive comment - the Christians on this forum have never tried to force their beliefs down my throat, and I thank them for that. But when we're engaging in discussions about various religions, there seems to be a distinct lack of Christian representation.

Appologies to you too Ousetunes, I didn't mean to put your back up, but I think you misunderstand. I wasn't suggesting that YOU were trying to put pressure on us to believe in hell, I was trying to say that whoever designed the website was.
I think it's an interesting thread and I'm glad you started it.
But I think the website is a pile of crap, designed to frighten people towards Christianity.

My thoughts exactly JBee..
The more of this crap that the religious wish to push down our throats, the more people disbelieve in god and christianity.
Its all a load of crap- to control your lives.
And if Jesus and god are so forgiving- then they wont mind me repenting on my death bed then eh!
So I technically will be able to go to heaven if this is correct?
:)
Does hell aply to all the other religions then? or do they have alternative premises

you ought to shut your mouth up about christian people i happen to be one of them so what if thats what we belive you shouldnt judge people when you dont even know crap.

I think youll find that JBee is simply voicing her opinion. There is nothing wrong with that. Its up to her if she thinks that its crap. Its an opinion.

Now, now Ilaria.... That's not a very 'Christian' remark to make :hihi:
And while you're at it... Why is it just me that's copped for your wrath? Why don't you have a go at Timo too? He thinks Jesus wants us all for a sunbeam...!
But seriously... As I keep trying to say to various people on this thread, I have no problems with Christianity or any other type of religion, as long as it's not shoved down my throat, so I'm sorry if I've offended you. I'm please that there is a Christian on this thread, and I hope that once you've stopped being mad at me you'll share your views on this hell website with us...
But I'm not sorry I voiced my opinions on the silly webpage. I STILL think it's a pile of crap, designed by fundamentalists to frighten people into believe in God, Jesus, Heaven and Hell, and so forth.
PS - Ilaria, I may not 'know crap', but at least I can punctuate a sentence!
Hey folks, just chill.
I'm a Christian, and like many Christians respect the belief systems of other people. The 'sound of Hell' stuff's been around for ages. Just Fundamentalists getting their kicks.... :)
The Christian view of Hell, I believe, a state of being in which there is a permanent absence of the grace of God. The flaming tar pits and little chaps with pitchforks is as much a product of the Church establishment of Middle Ages as anything else.
If you read Dante's 'Inferno', many of the people undergoing the punishments of Hell are actually historical figures who were political opponents of Dante and his patron; the imagery of Hell was used as a satire and a warning.
Of course, John Paul Sartre commented that Hell is other people; after a recent experience in a Play Centre, I may modify that to 'Hell is other people's children.' :)

You can't blame people for finding the idea that the earth is hollow a bit funny.
If ever there was an excellent site to while away a Friday afternoon, that was it. You keep thinking you must be near the end - BUT NO! THERE'S MORE! And it just keeps going on... and on. A highly amusing read.

Annoni_mouse 16-09-2005, 16:35 I doubt anyone but religious fanatics, believe in or indeed need to believe in a physical embodiment of hell. There are more than enough instances of 'hell on earth' to satisfy that particular need.....
The link, which Ousetunes so kindly provides, is clearly aimed at the poorly educated. It is designed to terrify the unsophisticated into joining fundamentalist churches, where they may meet damp-eyed, 'born again' fanatics given to jumping up and down for 'baby Jesu'. They will be expected to accept the literal interpretation of the Bible, which on one page advocates an 'eye for an eye' and on the other entreats one to 'turn the other cheek'.
If people must be religious, why can't they simply be C of E? In the church of my birth, nobody has the foggiest what to believe really. God is seen as some sort of benign Management figure, much too nice to send us to Hell. The C of E doesn't go around scaring people witless with tapes of shrieks and wails, and pictures of blazing hellpits. They do nice, reassuring little sermons about how Jesus may have been the first communist, and how we should never judge anyone. When they are not doing that, they like to have pie and pea suppers, fetes and sherry evenings at the vicarage. Nobody mentions Hell, that would be unutterably vulgar. As Betjeman said, 'there's refuge in the C of E'. How much more civilised than the demented, roaming fools responsible for the fatuous rubbish on the link.
Deadgobby,
I've tended to view the New Testament view of Hell as being a state of spiritual damnation rather than physical punishment of the corporeal body.
Which probably, I guess, means that according to some people's beliefs I'm bound there already....
BTW - your quotes are screwed up.
Joe
Joe,
As I said before, I am no expert on theology, but the current Anglican consensus on Hell is that it refers to distance from God. Typically, this is a 'woolly' concept, which could mean that the spirit does not enter Heaven, but instead goes, er, somewhere called Hell. The thing is though, the Anglican church apparently [in the main] no longer believes in the idea of a God who would wrathfully send sinners to a place of eternal torment. What happens then? Do those 'distanced' from God through lack of faith and repentance go to some sort of dismal waiting room? Is that what Hell is like? If so, we'll all be used to that kind of thing in Britain. The thought occurs, or do they remain earthbound ghosts? I do not know. Nor does anybody else really, when you come to think about it.

And if anyone needs any more proof, I have a photo of my hubby standing next to one of the town signs (it was admittedly taken in December and is therefore rather dark as it's very close to the Arctic Circle) taken while out on deliveries one day. It's in Finland I think (or is it Norway?)
averageman 16-09-2005, 21:27 It just sounds like a shopping Centre on a Saturday afternoon.

I'll do anything, anything. Even if it means sitting through Eastenders.
On the other hand, give it to me Celine. Let's get cooking.

Hi ilaria, Please... I'm a little confused. "You ought to shut your mouth up." ???
Did Jesus teach love? And if he did why have you missed? :)
Jabberwocky 02-04-2008, 23:18 You want to hear REAL hell?
Just start any woman off nagging...
THATS hell!
Swan_Vesta 02-04-2008, 23:19 It looks like Hell has resurrected a thread from the land that time forgot.
Play it through Windows Media Player and you can see by the visual display that there is a continual layer of background sound and then an alternating overlay of fluctuating 'screams of agony'.
Utter testicles.

Such a Christian response
I can see Jesus to the Romans now "you shut yo' face, you don't know crap about my daddy!"
It looks like Hell has resurrected a thread from the land that time forgot..
Aha...didn't notice that. Good point.
Rotherhamer 02-04-2008, 23:25 Well the broadcaster was an American so obviously hell must be in Russia, they'll find any ways and means to have a pop at the Russian Commies
Fivetide 02-04-2008, 23:41 This stuff is COOL.

I can play SOME realplayer content in WMP but not all (And this was one i couldnt (Says 'class not registered' meaning i dont have the needed codec for WMP to play this))
I'm too scared to listen to it. :|
It just sounds like a mall to be honest or a halloween "fright night" setting....

I thought this, just said to the hubby it sounds like a typical day in Meadowhall
I didn't think people went to hell until after the last judgement.
So the evidence they have found appears to be proof that conventional Christianity is wrong
carmencarter 05-04-2008, 09:48 I had to laugh.
The scariest thing is that some sensitive people will actually believe that and be really upset.
