I have just sent off for a application for for Dearne Valley College for the Access to Nursing course and was wanting to also apply for Sheffield but cant seem to find anything on the website does anybody have any idea's on how I go about applying with then too?

Plus I have been looking but am unsure as to what to go for but was thinking that as I need credits from the Access course to get onto my course at uni would having more credits help make me look more eager to study?

I was thinking about maybe doing a open university course that would add maybe 10 - 30 credits but am really out of my depth here and dont know where to start...

I just want to make something of myself and make my children proud of me, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kate,
Im looking to go on the Access to Nursing and Ive just sent off my appication for Dearne Valley,I am lucky that I already work in the NHS on the Mcmillan unit as a support worker, I recently spoke to Hallam uni and they do prefer the access course and level 2 in maths and english, check there website and do the access course that's a big help and I gather you have children and Im sure they'll be very proud of you...if you have time I don't know if you work part time? if not try and work in a nursing /residential home to get some experience,I know its not the same setting but experience helps as well, I think nhs have cut back a little...give it a try...good luck

Hi Kate I went to an open day for nursing and was informed that the uni places have been drasticly reduced, so therfore you need to stand out as much as possible. They offer the access to nursing course at Doncatser too and they do 2 intakes per year for the course sept and jan.
My friend did the course and then work on bank shifts one day a week and she got in no problem. Hope all goes well for you, good luck.
