Thought it was the guinea pigs but I put a boarder up to stop them getting off the grass. I planted some capsicums yesterday and they have gone. Eaten to the soil. Something is also getting in to the tubs and eating the bulbs as they come up.

I'm a bit new to this but it's annoying when I nurture these plants and then something eats them the minute my back is turned. I don't want to go round killing or poisoning things but I'm not happy.

Probably slugs or snails. I put 3 well established Aubergine plants into a grow bag, the next day the middle one had been felled like a tree. I replaced it, that got the same treatment. I replaced it again and the leaves got eaten. I have replaced it again but I am running out of plants! I found a snail lurking so guess it was him.

Wood Pigeons are bad for eating stuff.

I have similar problems sometimes, I agree, Wood Pigeons are notorious for eating new shoots. If you have any leaves with holes then it's slugs or snails as well. With Snails, unless you use some form of killer from the garden centre, the only reliable method is to find them and pick them off. Slugs can be baited away with things like beer traps as mentioned. Just have a look after dark and you might be able to find them doing their rounds, especially if it's damp. As for Pigeons, try putting some netting round till the shoots make it to a decent size.

I'm off now with the torch to have a look! The cat likes to think he can catch the collared doves even when they are a tree away. Funny to watch.
