View Full Version : Looking for a job from home :S
Hi there!
I'v been browsing for ages for some work which i can do at home to earn a little extra most importantly keep me occupied! I am a young carer for an elder who sufferes from parkinsons and could do with some work, iv bn searching for stuff like envelope stuffing etc, but such things don't seem to exist! i have my own laptop so could do administration work etc, although i have a degree, circumstances wont allow me to go out and work, which i don't really mind but would love to just do something from home....
Any help would be appreciated!
Kind regards.:)
terrellmyers 20-06-2010, 14:27 I think it's the hardest job in the world which you already take on being a carer, and it is a crying shame that the government don't support people like yourselves well enough so that you don't need to do extra work to get by. i will keep my eyes peeled for you and PM if I see anything that would suit your needs.
indizine 20-06-2010, 14:38 Full time carers do actually get paid so if you aren't getting anything and your caring provision stops you from getting a job then if you aren't getting it you should apply for carers allowance.
I believe, based on someone I know who gets this, you can then earn up to something like £95 a week without it affecting your carers allowance - but please double check this since situations and rules are always changing.
It might help to actually list what your proven skills and experience are so that people could give you some ideas or suggestions.
For example, having a laptop doesn't mean you have typing skills or are familiar with general software packages such as MS Word, Exel, etc. or confident with browsing/researching the internet, so if you list what you can do and are good at, that would be a start.
Hi there.
I don't recieve any carers allowance as i do it as voluntry. In terms of my skills and abilities, I can use a sewing machine, I have sewn items before, I can use most software packages including word, excell, powerpoint and so forth. since i have a degree which relates to teaching, I was thinking of tutoring/mentoring children but have not got anywhere with it yet! I am now considering jewelry making and selling it online as a business on ebay etc, Just need to look at where and how i start?!
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
indizine 20-06-2010, 21:48 When you say 'related teaching' how so? When did you last teach?
Ther is a vast difference between teaching and making jewellery - have you done the latter before? Hobby & craft stuff is very competitive online, and lik anything in business, you need to do your research first.
I'v done a degree in Early childhood studies, graduated nov 2010 just need to do my PGCE now in the future sometime. I know there is a vast difference, i'm just searching for things which i could do from home, thats all.
pins&needles 21-06-2010, 12:45 you can use a sewing machine!!! why not try and handmake stuff to sell online. have a look at etsy.com and folksy.com. as long as its handmade you can sell it on there. only costs 20p to list stuff. you can buy all your stock online, create whatever you like, curtains, pillow cases, purses, pouches whatever else you know how to make and sell it online. you would only need to go to the post office.
if its not that important that you make money from it then its a great way to keep you occupied. it will take a while for sales to come in and to build up a rep but might be worth a go.
You sew some things and make some jewellery as well
im going to try jewelty making i think, just going to browse round on how to make stuFF! and where to get the best materials from etc.
THanks for your help peeps! please keep an eye out incase you see a good work oppertunity for me,
indizine 22-06-2010, 12:39 try www.hobbyandcraftforums.co.uk - it's a pretty much new forum, set up by a friend of mine. Im sure they could guide you if you ask.
