I don't wanna sound too negative, but I can only see these 10% limited time offers as a corporate marketing propaganda.

It a companies markup profit in general is 24% then knocking off 10% of that is usually made up with the massive influx of revenue they hope it creates. . .

Anywhere that is having a "Sale" you have to look at with a tinted view, as they ain't doing it outta the goodness of their hearts.

I knows a bargin when I see's one. . .

B&Q aren't usually the cheapest place anyway so even with 10% off you can generally get the same for cheaper elsewhere.

it's all a load of twoddle, I used to work in a department store in the town centre...and they used to buy in cheap stock to put in the sale, this was never ever on display for the 28 days at the higher price, it was just priced up with some made up previous price and banged on the shelves... which is illegal I may add.

I also used to work in fashion in various shops and all of them dragged the same old crap out from the stock room year after year.

but they are all at it, It would be very rare that you would buy something cheaper than the shop had paid

B&Q-owner Kingfisher has said it is to shut 22 of the DIY chain's stores as it faces up to what it describes as the "toughest" market conditions for years.

They only just built Queens Road and Darnall!

b&q is the cheapest, just ask to use the price promise, its a lot easier than you think. i worked there for a while and did price promises there and then quite simply at the checkout. i was often amazed when people didnt bother to use the price promise! (then complain about prices too high etc..!)

i did hate the customers who think they know the law, and talk absolute rubbish! (the customer is always wrong in my experience!!)

had people fussed about a price error of 15p in some cases!
cust: exuse me there are 2 prices for the that bulb
staff: whats the lowest
cust: 49p
staff: then thats what it costs

Just to add a little further to the comments made by andy and pand, there was another thread to indicate a pending legal action against a major DIY company due to alleged breach of an employment contract. However it was never clarified whether this is one and the same incident.

Additionally and for reasons which the mods never clarified they pulled that thread under circumstances which remain not entirely clear. As I recall the original intention was merely to close the thread down so it could drift in to oblivion. The mind boggles at what happened to cause this unexpected change of heart.

It was mooted there may have been a link between the 2 threads but this too was never established because the primary source seemed more than somewhat reluctant to provide any clarification. :D

i bourght a lawnmower from focus, which also has a price promise. i then saw what i thought was the same one in B and q for £15 less. i checked the focus websited and found that the mower i had bought which was almost the same was exclusive to focus therefore the price promise wouldn't count:rant:

Being a tradesman I tend to stay away from the sheds anyway - I only go in them when it's the last straw :)
