View Full Version : Sheffield Bike Festival 2010
the white rose 20-06-2010, 08:22 Thanks to Sheffield City Council for their contribution to funding yesterday's Sheffield Bike Festival on Devonshire Green. The atmosphere was fantastic, there were people of all ages, including children, riding round on their bikes, and there were people helping others to fix their bikes. Plus some really great live music, apparently powered by people on static bikes. Not a whiff of trouble, just a lovely, peaceful atmosphere, much like the recent Peace in the Park. If Sheffield develops a reputation for hosting these kinds of events it can only reflect well on our city.
It also reflects very well on Sheffield Council and I hope they continue to support it :)
Did anyone else go?
Yeah I was there, my little girl came 3rd in the bling your bike....
Was a really nice day out, weather was a bit up and down but apart from that was a really enjoyable afternoon.
PS: white rose, are you anything to do with the organization of the event, if so I have a question.
Yog Sothoth 20-06-2010, 12:32 As a mountain biker and commuter cyclist I was well chuffed that this event was organised. Didn't get there 'til late-ish on, around 4.30, and it was dying down after what I was told had been a busy afternoon, despite FREEZING weather (for June). Got my old canti brakes set up by the Bike Doctor people and got invaluable advice for doing it myself too.
Some good music and some lovely bikes around. The blue Raleigh M-Trax was a gorgeous retrobike, whosever it was.
Hoe there's a repeat performance next year. Sheffield is deffo becoming Bike City and it's summat the Council should certainly be shouting about. I see far more cyclists on the roads these days than, say, five years ago, so there is a real upsurge in cycling evident across the area. This festival is a manifestation of that I think.
BTW V.Rossi: no, White Rose an't got owt to do with the organising. She's with me. What was the question though?
Basically, the pictures that were taken of the kids after the bling your bike...ws hoping to find out where they were going so I can get a copy of my daughter....proud dad and all....
Unfortunately I didn't make it due to too many things to fit into weekends that aren't long enough!
Is anyone going on the evening ride to Lodge Moor on Wednesday?

Maybe you could put a comment on their site asking if anyone knows who took the bling your bike pics?

There's a shot of the winner on this page so maybe that's the same photographer who took the pics of your daughter?

Good luck in tracking it down, anyway :)
btw I mentioned Sheffield City Council but it was also sponsored by Sustrans (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/) and the following companies:
* Endura
* Green Oil UK
* Nonnas
* Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative
* Harrison Cameras
...Nonnas being particularly dear to my heart because last summer the chef made me up a batch of fresh raspberry coulis to take out on the spot. :love:

Hi guys!
As I live in Sheffield I was very impressed with the festival over the weekend! Even though I don’t cycle as much as I should, the event had a great atmosphere with all ranges of people involved. I’m currently working for the Peak District Tourist Board and we are looking to promote cycling over the summer! We have a campaign running currently that is based on saddling up for the summer, which encourages people to get out their cars and onto their bikes! Also we have vouchers for free cycle hire, and some fantastic cycle routes that are being opened up this summer in the Peak District!
The tourist board are very interested in finding out more information about the festival and people thoughts from the city on cycling in the Peak District! Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Ben
