Hello,
Can anyone give me any tips on the best places to buy fruit trees and bushes for my allotment, what does well in our climate and what to avoid? Any advice on planting and the best to buy would be appreciated.
many thanks
Personally I like Ken Muir (www.kenmuir.co.uk). Not the cheapest but the quality is very good and they guarantee the plants - i.e. will replace them if anything happens to them. The site will also give plenty of advice and ideas on what you can grow. You generally want to be planting them in the winter when they're dormant, so concentrate on clearing where you want to put them and improving the soil.
They're going to be in the spot you put them in for a long time so generally somewhere nice and sunny, and somewhere where the trees aren't going to shade other areas of the plot too much.

Thanks rob, I will look on their site. Thankyou for the advice
I bought mine from home base and they have done pretty well
my brother is a landscape gardener he always goes to Palmers plants in Pudsey I think its just near the marks and spencers.. Good to try and get a trade card as you can get massive savings - they also know a lot about this area and can help you out with any questions i would have thought
We bought some trees and soft fruit bushes from Appletrees. It's a guy called Julian Brandam up at Meersbrook ( I think). Excellent condition and he's really knowledgeable and helpful.
He stocks a lot of local and heritage varieties.
