Hi
I've moved into S10 area (lodge Moor) recently and am after a few details to make my life better.
1) Is there a Chinese takaway in the Crosspool area. I've seen the "Wok this Way" mentioned but it's a bit far and the parking is bad on the main road.
2) where's the nearest library ?
3) Where's the nearest swimming pool (open on Sunday morning). Is there one at the King Edward school ?
4) Any recycling points for glass, plastic bottles, etc

Thanks in advance

Col

There's plenty of pubs in the Crookes/Broomhill vicinity, as that end of town is largely populated by skint students, those are fairly cheap, nearest swimming pool would probably be King Edwards or Upperthorpe, with Upperthorpe being more likely to be open on a Sunday given that King Eddie's is part of King Edward's school.

I'm not familiar with the area up Lodge Moor so I couldn't tell you about Libraries etc, the only part of S10 I really know much about is Crookes/Broomhill down towards Hunters Bar.

Best chinese takeaway by a long way is New Zing Vaa on Ecclesall road just down from Texaco Garage/ Napoleons Casino. Park in somerfields carpark opposite.

Wok this way is awful.

King Edwards Pool is privately run and is the best bet on a sunday (but not in the week as parking is awful).

Ditto the library which is going to be part of the same complex when it's complete.

However, Broomhill Library is closer to Cross Pool.

There is a library in Broomhill.

The swimming pool at King Teds is open at weekends.

Chinese - there is one in crosspool along with a couple of good Italians. The chinese there used to be good and someone was saying to me last week that they had a lovely meal from there on Xmas eve. There is also the Red Ruby chinese on Hanging Water Rd, I have never used it but it does do delivery.

Recycling - your nearest is most probably at Somerfield on Eccalsal Road, they do most things there. I am not sure if there is a bottle bank at the bus terminus at Lodge Moor, did find out on Sunday that there is a bottle bank at the Walkley Cottage pub.Try asking your neighbours if they know of one nearer or ring Onyx.

The 2 pubs up there at the top of Lodge Moor, The Sportsman and Three Merry Lads are OK and they both do food, but it does depend on where in Lodge Morr you are as it is a very large area.

Hope this is helpful. and let us know if you use the red ruby as to what it is like.

The sheffield pub is a nice pub but sportsman is better though as they serve food from 6pm-8pm and the sheffield stops doing food after 2pm i think.
there is a chinese take away on fullwood road called 'lots of rice' the food isn't overpriced and it's next door to costcutter. the chinese take away also does english food aswell as chinese they open at 5pm .

Hi Cols...
Welcome to wild and windy Lodge Moor...
There is a Chinese takeaway in Crosspool but we've never tried it. We use Wok this Way a lot and we think their food is fine. They also deliver for a small charge which is good on a dark and rainy night! Red Ruby is good too. However, 'Lots of Rice' as someone's mentioned is a new place on Barncliffe Road, we've used them twice and they seem OK.
Nearest library is Broomhill, closed on Thursday afternoons I think.
Swimming pool King Edward's, yes, freezing cold sometimes! If you want things to do you could join the HCYA (Hallam Community & Youth Organisation) who organise clubs and social things. They actually hire the pool on Saturdays for an hour and you can swim then if you're a member.
Recycling is a bit of a sore point - we're finding we have to drive further and further to do it. Somerfield on Ecclesall Road no longer have recycling facilities so it tends to be the big supermarkets we go to.

It's okay, it's rare I do, but my attention was arrested by the Upperthorpe pool renovation, now open of course, and so I thought the thread would be better closed.

Well settled now, thanks. I've been here over two and a half years and I just love the place.

That depends on which bit of S10 you are in. It covers a very large area and many chineses.
