If you go on the Sheffield Connexions website, they have a list of job vacancies for school leavers.

Hi, a son of mine seems to be having the same trouble
he says there are apprenticeships on there and no real jobs..
any alternatives?

Why isn't an apprenticeship a real job?

I would have thought that, at 16 and just left school, an apprenticeship would be a good choice to learn new skills and make your son more employable in the future?

Because if you have an apprenticeship you work for 4 days a week and go to college for one day to study, you earn a minimum of £95 per week and you have to fill in a contract. However a real job is on minimum wage and can be for more hours and you dont have to go to college.
