There has been a large accident on the junction of London road and Sharrow Lane this evening.
Two cars were racing each other up London road and one hit a Renault Laguna pulling out of Sharrow lane. People were injured and taken to hospital.
A large quantity of engine oil was dropped on the road and the cops have put down grit on the road but haven't as yet (at 11:40pm) marked it. It's incredibly slippery and sadly I've just come off my motorcycle on it doing a fair bit of damage. Cars too are sliding around on the grit and oil.
I'm not sure how much this is going to help everyone, but tomorrow there may well still be some residue.
Please watch out - I was lucky, I stayed on my feet as the bike went over the highside.

Good lord, what idiocy. *rolleyes*
especially on that strip of road, as it narrows down considerably, just before that junction.
Were they trying to set themselves up as potential donors, perhaps?
darwin awards, anyone?
I hope that the laguna driver/ passengers were ok?

thanks for the warning :)
If its not marked as slippery surely you could claim for the damage to your bike- go get some pictures to prove it!

The cops admitted responsibility once they'd watched me pick up my bike and push it to the side of the road (cheers for the help, fellas...).
I had a bit of a go at them for not marking it better and they got on their radio to get some signs put down. Whilst we were waiting we watched a couple of cars get rather sideways on the gravel which I pointed out to them in a loud and clear voice. On particular officer couldn't have been more helpful. He kicked up a genuine fuss with Control to get some signs down and was extemely sympathetic for what happened.
What the cops eventually did for me was to link my incident with that of the original, so my coming off of the bike is associated with the original accident so should I claim insurance it will be the policy of the guy who was racing up London road that pays. Assuming he had a policy.
On closer inspection of my bike in daylight I've got a busted clip-on, two bent levers, a bent fairing mount and some scuffs on my paintwork. It'll have to go see Paul at Manahattan but it shouldn't break the bank.
Still really annoying, though.
Pleased everything is going to work out for you.
London Road is a long way from Brighton though ?

Hehehe, it is indeed. I've actually moved back to Sheffield for a couple of weeks having finished my Masters degree. I've not updated my profile yet.
Funnily enough I've got a job interview back in Brighton tomorrow. I'm hoping that bad luck yesterday equates to good luck tomorrow....

There is some way to claim off the council on accidents caused by spillages that have been reported. I'm afraid I dont know any details, and hopefully the accident guy had some insurance.
